The game runs fine, but there aren't any sound effects. I tried pressing F1 to enable them, but that just makes the game freeze for a moment.

Not familar with that game but I would delete it and reinstall and then get the shits if it was the same:)

If I am not mistaken, which I may be, I think that you need to install the game as administrator. Try it and see what happens.
