"PS4 Mod Update

After months of discussion with Sony, we regret to say that while we have long been ready to offer mod support on PlayStation 4, Sony has informed us they will not approve user mods the way they should work: where users can do anything they want for either Fallout 4 or Skyrim Special Edition.

Like you, we are disappointed by Sony’s decision given the considerable time and effort we have put into this project, and the amount of time our fans have waited for mod support to arrive. We consider this an important initiative and we hope to find other ways user mods can be available for our PlayStation audience. However, until Sony will allow us to offer proper mod support for PS4, that content for Fallout 4 and Skyrim on PlayStation 4 will not be available.

We will provide an update if and when this situation changes."

well this sucks and sony sucks, but i'm counting on a ps4 jailbreak that will allow mods on bethesda games.

On the flip side however, Sony is forcing Bethesda to actually program their games right using their own staff and not their fans who keep buying their broken games.

Sacrificing mod compatibility for something like this is tempting, assuming Sony does actually care about that. *sigh*.

Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim were all released on consoles without any mod compatibility, otherwise these versions were identical to PC version - and they were all extremely popular. Contrary to popular belief, Bethesda can make some excellent games which work reasonably well - they just get even better with mods, to the point where people who dislike them for some design decisions can freely change those design decisions to suit their needs.
Sony refused Ark Survival on PS4 because it was not finished.

I'm not confident for the acceptance of Skyrim Special Edition if it cannot be modded :P
If this wasn't completely predictable, I'd be shocked! Shocked, I tell you! :P

Sony is what Sony is, and that is a company with no interest in customer satisfaction. It's been pulling anti-consumer bullshit for years, and it doesn't look like it's gonna change anytime soon.
PC+gamepad == problem solved
or
PC+Steam controller+SteamLink == problem solved

:)
Being one of the few negative pushes on Sony this is curious to see where it develops, if it means anything or not. Truthfully losing mods isn't a big deal for a console that never had them before. However if there's a big enough push, they might sing a different tune...

But seeing as Fallout is already... a year old? Two years? (I forget I never played it), it's going to be less important. Not to mention the space limitations.

I heard there was something big about the proprietary formats used for textures and sounds that was an issue for mods, and the modders probably don't have those tools to make it work, and Sony probably isn't going to release tools to give it to them.

ok there will be mods for skyrim and fallout 4 on ps4 but you will not be able to upload external assets. also the both games get some graphical upgrades for the ps4 pro.

"We’re excited to announce that mod support is coming to PlayStation 4 for both Skyrim Special Edition and Fallout 4. Additionally, we’ll also be supporting the new PlayStation 4 Pro with both titles.

Skyrim will have these features when it launches on October 28. The new power of the PlayStation 4 Pro has allowed us to make Skyrim render in native 4k, and it looks better than ever. Here are some screens to show you just how great it looks.

Mod support will come to Skyrim first. We and Sony have worked hard to make this possible. Mods on PlayStation 4 will allow you to modify and create your own content by using our Creation Kit available here. You will not be able to upload external assets with your PlayStation 4 mods, but you will be able to use any assets that come with the game, as most mods do. By creating a Bethesda.net account, you’ll be able to browse and try mods right from within the game.

We are excited finally to get modding to our PlayStation fans who have supported us for so long. Modding has been an important part of our games for over 10 years, and we hope to do even more in the coming year for all our players, regardless of platform.

After the work is complete on Skyrim, we’ll be updating Fallout 4 for both mods and PS4 Pro. We expect Fallout 4 to take advantage of the PS4 Pro in 4k along with enhanced lighting and graphics features.

Thanks again for all your support. We can’t wait to hear about your new adventures."

UI

Bethesda has a habit of just slapping the first thing resembling a UI onto whatever game they're building without the slightest thought towards things like usability. They're just relying on modders doing their work for them.

I don't think I would classify any Elder Scrolls UI as anything significantly better than "just about tolerable until modders fix it".

Your opinion, which is perfectly respectable.

As you have to respect the fact that some people might disagree with you. That's all. Until SkyUI was released by modders, I was perfectly satisfyied by Syrim's original UI.
