I've read one in a book published in 1836 ("Les Voleurs", written by chief of police Vidocq. Nice read if you are interested in 18th/19th century thieves and crooks, and french free copies are easy to find on the net). It was a nice sob story about a noble family that hid their jewels just before they got caught and executed by the evil revolutionaries in the 1790', and their poor servant needed a noble soul to pay for his trip to the hiding place.

Well, i was referring to the specific one, thread discusses, the *scammer*. Not anyone or everyone. Also, i didn't say anything about culture, i am just watching the news and i am regularly joking or even downright trolling. What's wrong with that? Anyone would want to shoot a scammer, besides, anyway.

Someone needs to collect the most entertaining Nigerian scam stories and publish them in a book. It would probably even sell and it would be the ultimate way to troll the scammers by profiting off their creative work.
In order to add value and actually sell, the book would need illustrations though, or maybe turn it into a comic altogether. I'm seeing real potential here.

Wish i could draw, then i might actually do this... Perhaps even with replies from them and see how often you can use the same dead information, say giving information on Abraham Lincoln? And refer to bank information for closed banks that don't exist anymore (Washington Mutual?), and get ahold of serial killer fingerprints in case they are ever used :P

Ha! The first time I saw the Nigerian scam was when my mom received it at her work address via snail mail :). That was before the WWW days of course, and to this day we have no clue how they got the address and referred to my mother by name and title. We had a serious wtf moment that day. Good times...

I wouldn't be surprised if it was some short time after you moved. I notice when i put a notification of moving (from & to) for mail forwarding, i suddenly get a lot of interesting junk mail...

A while ago this is exactly what the makers of a Dutch tv show called 'Rambam' did. Most of the show is spoken in English (phone calls and the ultimate meeting with one of the scammers) so that shouldn't pose a problem. Not knowing any Dutch, you only miss out on the introduction, brainstorming parts and the voice-over.
If you do need/want some additional clarification after watching it, let me know. (Í'll try and visit the forum a bit more often than I usually do... :D )

Fun facts:
- Around the 10 minute mark (the Dallas theme) 'Bunny Konijn' is introduced. In Dutch 'konijn' means - yes, you guessed right - bunny.
- Around the 14 minute mark (and the very last scene), where the Nigerian guy is asked to sing the national anthem the words are actually from a completely different song. 'You lied to me as if I were a child. It seems you were thinking that I was completely blind. Well, love, do you think you can cope with me? Well, love, then you really must be up to something.'
