My brother lives out there but he is north central Cali and relatively safe right now, knock on wood.

And this sort of thing is why I laugh at people who have the nerve to feel bad for me because of all the snow I get. :P

Holy shit, I would expect this kind of news during peak summer season, but not nearly at winter. Has this last year been particularly dry there?

it's always dry in Cali. I don't think my brother has been legally permitted to water his lawn in going on two years.

I've just been having dinner with some friends and I don't know how we ended up talking about water availability and the usage we make of it. It all made me remember this Dinosaur Comics strip.

Yeah, I'm in California, we went through the worst drought in our history for 5 years or so. There's a lot of dry areas here still, and we just had some high winds come through. That's what kicked the fires off, the high wind and all the dry brush.

Heck, we even got wildfires here in New Hampshire last year, but nothing like what California gets! I 'm afraid it's just getting worse---for all of us.

At least when your trees burn you have the great smell of all that maple. :P

Daaamn. Almost makes me happy I don't live in California. Sure I know you have Predators roaming around and alien invasions and earthquakes... but this. This is something I can't handle. Not today.
