Hi All,
I recently had my local pc support guy build me a new Win7 pc. He built my old XP system (still runs fine). The new setup is very good (so far). My XP system was beginning to chug a bit on the web, and of course there is a growing selection of games I couldn't run. I held out this long because of anticipated difficulties but decided to fork out for a complete new system including keyboard, monitor, etc.

So now I have both and am a very happy old guy. Been with GoG for nearly 2 years, 100+ problem free games. Sad to see XP support dropped, but I understood it. Now I don't care!

Been gaming since the Sinclair Spectrum days of 1984, so I've seen lots of changes and can appreciate them all. I remember drooling over Wing Commander when it first came out - but at a whopping 40Mb it would have filled by C: drive.

Specs:
Intel I7 4790 @3.6 GHz (Haswell)
8 Gb Ram
Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050Ti
Win7 Home premium
Monitor - Samsung 24" 1MS 1920 X 1080
Logitech speakers

The monitor is amazingly better than my old 14" 9X6 jobby.

For those about to pan me, I chose not to get Win10 (yet) - have you seen the posts about compatability and problems? Each update changes things can stop a currently working game from running. I wanted reliability and I definitley didn't want to be a beta tester. When Win10 stops "new build" updates I'll think about it.

I use it for games, internet, Word, and Xcel.

I did have a problem installing AoW3 but even I managed to resolve that (see the AoW3 forum if you're interested).

I just hope I have enough cash left when the next sale comes along.
Thus far, I had no major compatibility issues with my new Windows 10 laptop. I still have to try with my older games though.

P.S.You should have got a faster GPU. I was almost going with a GeForce 1050 Ti, then I found a good offer for a GeForce 1060 laptop and I got that...

Well over 1 year using windows 10, not found a single comparability problem yet. There is some issues, mainly down to how people use computers nowadays - i.e. Via clients auto updates and clogging up systems. Also, some compatibility settings seem to elude people (direct play for instance). That being said win10 does have a lot of shovelware built in that you can't easily remove, does have tracking features, and needs some tweaks like classic shell to be useful. Win 7 was "better" - a bit subjective, certainly the best since xp, but those days are going.
Welcome to Win7! XD
I assembled a new pc with that OS too, because I despise Win10.
