I just joined. Kind of confused though because I though GOG was about old games, yet I see The Witcher 3 for sale right on the front page? I guess it doesn't matter, just glad to be here!

Welcome to Gog and the witcher is made by the parent company which owns Gog.

It's mostly old games, but there are a fair share of newer ones too. As gunsynd said The Witcher series is made by the company which owns GoG and is one of the few new 'AAA' titles.

Not exactly, it was made by a daughter of the parent company which owns GOG. So technically by GOG's sister.

Old games are, in certain ways, the core of GOG, but they've branched out. That's why there are also lots of recent indie games in the store. Part of the reason is that the rights to old games can be quite difficult to obtain.
And as gunsynd said, the developers of The Witcher and GOG belong to the same company, so they're pushing that series quite heavily.
