Wishbone: Do we see them explicitly not doing that?

tinyE: No, but are you insinuating that Obi-Wan is lying?!

YOU BASTARD!!!
No, I'm insinuating that he may be out of touch with developments over the 20 years he spent in a mud hut in the desert ;-)

As opposed to the Sand People who were out on Korriban and Dantooine studying up on the latest state of the art military tech and strategies?

God I love this forum. XD

Wishbone: On the other hand, judging from their performance in the rest of the movie, he had no idea what he was talking about :-D
avatar
JMich: You mean when they let the smugglers escape the death star with the princess and a homing beacon, to lead them to the rebel base?
So you are suggesting that all of the storm troopers in the movie are deliberately aiming like shit and valiantly sacrificing their own lives for the good of the empire? I can't see that happening.

honx:
So you've changed "New user" to "Nerd" how... convenient ;)))

Well, if his reference were the clone troopers he worked with in the cartoon series, yeah, looks like there was quite the drop in quality and training while he was in retirement.
That, or some greedy weapon manufacturer sold the Empire a batch of helmets with malfunctioning optics.

That's exactly what I was trying to convey, thank you :-)

The clone troopers were genetically enhanced and trained from childhood. They were however also short-lived. After they died out, the Empire would have recruited adults from among the general population.

Yes. See the fight at the start of "A New Hope". See their shots when R2D2 is trying to open the bunker in "Return of the Jedi". See how they assemble the big guns on Hoth while under fire in "The Empire Strikes Back".
Not to mention that having a squad of troopers firing at two targets in a door frame and having each shot miss by inches takes quite a bit of skill.

Here's a picture story about it ;)

JMich: Don't give Thiev ideas please.

-Hello, support? I have some issues with my games.
-Don't worry, one of our Tech Assassins will be right there to take care of you.
-You mean Tech Assistants, right?
-Maybe...
Well, HB has Roaming Support Ninjas, so why not?
HB ninjas are worse than Stormtroopers.

Don't believe me?
Check my stealth inc 2 thread. I have posted screenshot of their mail.

Well, a lot of the "they are really competent" stuff can be explained by the fact that rebel ground troops and specforce are even worse than them at hitting the broadside of a barn. "In the country of the blind, the one-eyed is king" and all that stuff. It's all relative ^^

Totally agree with the "it's a movie" conclusion of the picture, though. The quest for harsh realism does not mix well with heroic tales, and the movies are fine the way they are. :)
