if you are new to PC gaming and want in on the classics that made PC gaming the drug of choice for most of us, then fire away with the questions. :D

If you like the Witcher 1 and 2 then the Witcher III is a must. But wait for it to go on sale as it has been 50 percent off in the past and will be again in the future, and even more eventually (unless it is on sale as part of a "welcome to GOG" promo for you right now).
If you like the Witcher series or RPGs then GOG is a great place. RPGs. So many RPG options:
Isometric Western RPG: Pillars of Eternity, Divinity Original Sin 1 and 2, Shadowrun series, Wasteland series, Lords of Xulima), Fallout 1 and 2.
Western Strategy RPG: like Blackguards
JRPG: like the Legend of Heroes and Y's games
Strategy JRPG: Agarest series
Isometric Action RPG: Torchlight 1 and 2, Victor Vran, Titan Quest.
First-person dungeon crawlers: Legend of Grimrock series, Wizardry series.
Plus stuff like Star wars Knights of the Old Republic 1 and 2, Fallout 3, Fallout New Vegas, Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion, Deus Ex, System Shock, Dragons Dogma, Dex and so, so much more.
GOG is fantastic for RPGs.

I believe you.
Here's my take on the whole thing.
If you want to get into pc gaming, just get into Steam. Pretty much every game you want. All conveniently together with regular sales.
If you want to get into talking about gaming on a forum with people you like to be around, then come to GoG and forget Steam. Here you will find yourself developing strong opinions about DRM, regional pricing, and how modern games have gone to shit. You will spend more and more time on the forum itself and less and less time gaming. You will enjoy this - perhaps to your own surprise. Also you will start to accumulate games that you never play. You will begin to consider yourself a collector rather than a gamer. Again, you will enjoy this. Again, perhaps to your own surprise.
Me? I first played video games in the 70s. I am older than you. I have 4 children. I game roughly 3 hours a week. I spend more than that on forums and social media. I try to play what I like as long as it remains fun. Then I ditch it. I like to hang out here on GoG because I find the people here smart. But then I do my best to downplay their opinions about archiving (I don't believe in it), collecting (I don't see the point), physical copies (I rejoiced when I could ditch my physical media), DRM (I don't give a hoot as long as it is easy to use), and owning games versus licensing them (I don't give a hoot).
And TinyE is right, it is my time of the month or something. Every so often I get all riled up and just have to bitch to a bunch of strangers for a bit. Then I settle down and am much nicer - to the point no one even remembers me.
Welcome to GOG! You'll love it here. It's made of people!

I'm willing to try out RPGs, just not JRPGs. I've never been into the whole anime art style. I prefer my American comic book art. Divinity: Original Sin 2, Vikings: Wolves of Midgard, and Elex all look awesome. Freedom Force and Freedom Force vs The Third Reich hits home because of my love of old Jack Kirby art. Apotheon has a great art style as well. I love the Greek mythology aspect of the game. Will these older games run in widescreen?
