Funny how these threads start up and then we often don't hear from the thread starter again.
But maybe they just wanted to bleat before disappearing off of GOG.

Certainly I have had download speed issues with GOG for many months now, and I don't even use Galaxy.
But most of my time as a customer of GOG, I have had good download speeds, just not since their server problem last year. There are ways around that of course, but they are annoying or less convenient than previously.

eric5h5: I always buy games on GOG and don’t have those problems.
Same here.

One time I tried to log in to Steam and it always showed me an "Unknown Error". I didn't have access to ANY of my games for days. But of course I could log in to their site to BUY games.

I'd rather quit playing games entirely than buy on Steam where I HAVE to use their launcher just to get the games that I've paid money for.

So go back to Steam and stop spamming this forum, it's just annoying.
Never buy a game from GOG says the guy who owns all of two games on GOG, one of which is Cyberpunk 2077 that he was playing 16 hours ago as of this post. It's probably safe to assume that he's just complaining about Cyberpunk.

rotem56: like this is what the launcher is meant to do and its can't do it.

Breja: Have you considered simply not using the client? Just download the offline installers from your library.
I would otherwise say the same, but apparently he/she/it is playing Cyberpunk which might still need semi-frequent updates, which may be a pain in the ass with offline installers and much easier with a autoupdating client.

I don't need Galaxy as I tend to play my GOG games way past their active update cycles. Haven't seen many updates recently for e.g. Soul Reaver 2 or Planescape: Torment EE.

ReynardFox: Pebcak.
PECTOPAH

Some claim that means "restaurant", but no, it is just pectopah, the stuff you sometimes find in your pants in the mornings.

(Yes yes, I had to google what pebcak means, So sue me! I will counter-sue you!)

Even so, that's hardly enough to justify the hysterical "no one should buy any games from GOG, #NoSteamNoBuy" cry.

That, I can agree with.

I guess the point still is he is having some kind of problem with the Galaxy client, and he assumed the fault is in the client itself, at least if Steam is working for him at the same time. Who knows what the issue is, maybe his antivirus suite decided to block Galaxy or something.

I know the feeling, it sucks when something doesn't work. Like yesterday, I noticed my Logitech G413 Carbon mechanical gaming keyboard was totally dark, the backlighting didn't work for some reason, which sucks a lot as the keys are very hard to see without the lighting (no white symbols on black like on normal keyboards, it relies on that LED backlighting to work).

It may be some Windows update caused it, as Windows sometimes asked if I allow Windows to control the lighting of my peripherals, some new feature in Windows 11? Either way, now the gaming keyboard is always totally dark, no matter what I select in those Windows options.

I first thought the keyboard has broken down, ie. no light at all, but I noticed that if I detach and re-attach the two USB cables for the keyboard, the keyboard lighted up for a second, then going dark again.

The only fix I found was that I had to install the Logitech G Hub application, and run it. Then the keyboard lights up. I have to run that stupid app every time I boot up Windows, in order for the keyboard to light up.

So people. never buy a keyboard from Logitech, even if it cheaper than Microsoft keyboards! Hmmm, or maybe I should say: never use Windows 11, even if it was cheaper than Linux! Windows will make your gaming keyboard light non-fuctional!!!

That's right, that's why I can't take posts like this seriously. If someone has an understandable problem and the thread creator describes it with good intentions, then I'm the last person who doesn't want to help. When there are such calls for a boycott, I usually buy another game from my wish list to compensate for this negative contribution.

We live in a wonderful age of entertainment and yet there is far too much complaining about it for my taste.

As others have said, don't use Galaxy. It's crap. (well, it's a client so it was designed to be crap, but even among clients it is quite bad)

Just use a browser (like the one you are using to post here), go to https://www.gog.com/account, click on the game you want, click on "Download offline backup installers" and then download the installer file(s) for the game.
Love how someone can just make one troll post and leave a trail of carnage.

And GOG will get onto closing this thread (if anyone reported it), a week from now at best.

I sure am glad we gave up active moderator for passive aggressive moderation.
