I've been in a battle with Mount & Blade Bannerlord the last few months. Here's what happened...

... I downloaded Mount & Blade Bannerlord when it released in EA, no problems.

Then a few months back there was an update (full release maybe?). I started the download / installation of the update and...

... it kept failing.

Finally I gave up trying to update the game and simply deleted it (via Galaxy) and started a clean installation.

It failed.

I then uninstalled GOG Galaxy and re-installed.

After re-installing Galaxy I went to the Galaxy Mount & Blade Bannerlord page.

The "play" button was greyed-out.

I then went to the "manage installation" menu hoping to either delete or re-install Bannerlord... but all of that was greyed-out as well (inaccessible).

I then checked to see if Mount & Blade Bannerlord was on my PC hard drive? No, it's not.

So currently I have a game that's not on my computer that Galaxy won't let me install.

I take it this means there is a file somewhere telling Galaxy that Bannerlord is still on my hard drive somewhere, but a search using "Bannerlord" brought up nothing (actually the search was hung up after 3+ hours).

Anyone have any idea what I might try or where I might look?

And yes, I contacted Support halfway through this process, but they asked for information using steps that didn't work on my PC; while Support was quick to reply (I can vouch for that), there were just too many issues with what they were asking that I couldn't imagine an extended email conversation leading to any reasonable and hasty conclusion of this issue.

I'm exasperated and at wits end.

Feel like ditching Galaxy

Well, I certainly have heard it surmised that perhaps Galaxy is just there to lose them money in development and maintenance nightmares. Seems to hold true for the Epic Games Client, which is 6 Chromiums in a trenchcoat.

Well, I hate to say it, but...

... Steam has always been a pretty easy client to use... and I can only remember one failure in all my installations. On the other hand...

... Galaxy is VERY SLOW, the "buttons" often have extended delays reacting to clicks (many times I have no idea if a click has registered or not), and installation failures and corrupt files are common.

IMHO Galaxy is a great idea that needs a fair amount of work. I shouldn't fear buying large games from GOG... but I do!
I know this is going to sound stupid, but a quick search shows some people resolved this by restarting their PC. My best guess is that maybe some software on your PC has locked the install location, and restarting might clear that lock. I would also check to see if temporarily disabling your antivirus (assuming you are running one) allows you to install.

I have re-started multiple times during the process. Re-started one moment ago just in case... problem still persists.

Anti-virus deactivation... same.

Appreciate it... but still at square one. *sigh*

---------------

Think I'll probably download the game (again for the millionth time!) but this time via offline installers. After installation I'll see if Galaxy will add the game manually via scanning the folder.

Good places to look for remnants of your previous installation are the system registry, %LocalAppData%, %AppData%\..\LocalLow, and %AppData%, as well as any of the possible GOG folders on your hard drive. If there are none, you should consider deleting anything inside the %APPDATA%\..\Temp folder.

Before you change or delete entries in your registry, create a full backup and store it on a USB key.
