Hi all.

I am here in Japan and while I know what kind of Mac computers would be great for my friend. She needs a PC as for her main programs and such don't have anything for the Mac. Was looking as Dospara and some other major shops but she is limited on funds. Yen wise something like 30,000 to 60,000 yen max. If you went 1 US Dollar = 100 yen that would be 300 to 600 dollars.

The PC she currently has is a Fujitsu notebook (laptop). It's on it's last leg now. Been thinking of HP, NEC and Fujistu but I'm open to MS and Acer if any good models in the target price range are possible? Mainly she does non high graphic stuff. Just web surfing, post cards making, and whatnot. So if you all could drop some suggestions I can check out to see if here in Japan it can be bought.
Message me up I will help you out, I have dealt with yen prices and parts from japan. if you wanna build something simple then perfect.

Thanks. Just got back to my desk here. I cannot PM you because of your settings?? Anyway, try to PM me if possible. If not, we can simply use this thread.
It's your privacy settings you have to fix, I get people messaging me daily. But we can use the thread if you can't get it to work.

the yen right now at 60,000 is 526.40 US Dollars

so if you can manage to save a bit more to get it around 600 USD then building a pc might be a bit better.

Do you live close to akihabara?

I'll look at my settings on my next long break from work. What she needs because of space issue is a notebook (laptop) PC. Building a PC (mini or mid tower) desktop wouldn't be so hard but I also don't want to be saddled with problem shooting it. I made a tower PC before a long time ago and she isn't mechanical incline so I suggested she get a simple notebook. That worked out great until she got this bundled deal that put a lot junk pre installed on system. Just need a good enough notebook that won't break her wallet. She just got a new iPhone and so I want to help her as cost cutting as possible. I'm thinking as CPU wise at least i5 unless an AMD CPU option is valid?

if you can get an amd for a good price stick with the A-10 or A-12 series those can offer good performance. stay clear of HP laptops

Will look into that. Any particular brand to help get a quick start to look at?
For that budget you should be able to find:

i3 or i5 cpu
4-8GB RAM
500GB - 1TB HDD or 128-256 GB SSD

I don't know if you have Black Friday sale in Japan, if you do, it would be good opportunity to buy something better and/or save some money.

I was thinking the same thing for basic stuff like he wanted it seems pretty reasonable and I am sure they have some good laptops with specs but I would skip the i3 crap, This is not 2005. i5 will do perfect for years to come.

Do you guys have Dell laptops at the price range with that cpu or an i5?

or you can try Lenovo they sometimes have the AMD cpu lineup and i5 as well.

Those laptops tend to have better lifespan and reliability due to them being base around the work environment.

Yes but most of i5 with U (except 8th gen) are basically i3 with higher frequencies. Only HQ are true quad cores.
I hate those U models so damn much... 2 cores in 2017 is sad. but I know there is some I5 models that are still 4 cores, older ones no?
Sorry for the late reply. Limited on when I can jump online.

Thanks for the great info and most of all your insight on this subject. Been looking around and locally and online most major outlets want to leach you dry on tech equipment that has barely anything worth while to buy at their asking price. I'm not as mobile as I used to be or I would venture to Akiba to see what I could find. But I will keep looking around and hope that another Black Friday sale will happen here. Last year was the first one and it was a hit.
