It seems nobody's getting it. Let's have a poem.
"It's just a piece of oak, they said.
And that's really all it was.
Yet here I am with sword in hand,
Trying not to bite the dust.
We fight for Mother Italy,
Yet we are torn apart.
This petty fight just isn't right,
And truly breaks my heart."

Right you are. The Great Siege of Malta where the Knights Hospitaller (a.k.a the Knights of Malta), during 5 months of fighting, successfully repulsed the Ottoman Turks attack on their isle.

That could be Alexander the Great, but I don't remember him making it as far as Arabia (those guys on the left are definitely Arabs). Or maybe it's India he didn't make it to. I forget.
Seems much later in time, though. Especially for one of those Romantic folks to find a reason to paint it.
Also seems to favor the people who the Arabs are fighting against, so it could be some religious thing. "Look at our glorious soldiers protecting Europe from these savage Arabs!"
Siege of Constantinople, perhaps? Darned if I know which one it is, though.

Yes is Siege of Constantinople. Your Turn.
But...which one was it? Ah, well.
There's a disturbing lack of American flags on this thread, so let's add a battle with a whole bunch of 'em in it!

Given the colour of the battle uniforms worn by the 2 sides, this is a battle from the American civil war. Alas, I dont know much about this period in american history other than the most general of stuff and thus I cant quite correctly guess this particular battle. Anyone?
