Dear GOG forum users,

Last week this notification (see attached image) about a new chat message popped up. Strangely enough there was no new chat message. Since then this notification won't go away. I even clicked through all the chat protocols of every user I interacted with so far. Nothing.

Before I start bugging support about this I want to ask you guys if someone ever experienced this issue and probably knows a solution.

Usually goes away after going in and out gogcom or games.
It's a known bug. There's some people who've had it for a year or longer without it going away.

Clearing your browser's cache and cookies is worth a try. It sometimes fixes such notification issues.

Might have been a scammer or whatever that contacted you.
When the account gets deleted the message is gone but still unread.
Weird stuff.
Alternatively, it may be a ghost. It IS Halloween, after all.
Have you considered hiring your local paranormal investigator, or at least investing in an Ouija board?

Even ghosts are going digital nowadays... What's next a priest performing the exorcism with a laptop: "The power of Anti-virus compels you!" ?

Nice. So I better get used to it because I might be stuck with it for a looong time...

Didn't help, but thanks for the hint.

I also see it in Galaxy, on my phone, and on another computer.

That actually makes perfect sense.

Maybe contact GOG support and see if they can do anything about it, but honestly, considering how long some others have had to deal with it...they're likely to just give you a canned "We are aware of this problem and are actively working to fix it as soon as possible." response.

Just a heads-up, lo and behold, the issue is supposed to be fixed by GOG now ;-)
See here:
Our team did a fix for persistent/phantom chat notification, please check if it goes away:
- Go to chat page with the wrong notification only (read all unread that you see and go to chat again basically)
- Wait for 2 minutes
- Refresh the page

I was about to say that it happens when dead forumers try to contact us, but :

Marked as solution.
