I'd also like to support Duke Nukem. Too bad the franchise is dead and buried. But even if it wasn't, I have zero faith anyone would do it justice in this day and age, so it's probably for the best.

duke is a man that's time has passed.
Simpsons Duffman episode proved that.
but truth be told doom is dark, atmosphereic, evil, tech bases and satanism..
so them doing the whole fantasy slant on it is weird.

i honestly don't want to see this doom turn into a bunch of meme's and nothing more than a hype train.
on top of this.. 24 hours for a full game feels so bland.

and then multiplayer is truly better when you have the stable of known horses.
Deathmatch, ect..

i honestly hope this does not turn into kids art mess.

doom 3 held a level of realism i love and respect and doom 2016 mastered that then left us on a cliff hangand then doom eternal goes... screw 2016 fans. 10 years later... well thanks alot id software... thanks i really wanted to start my story 10 years later after waiting for the next installment.

and then the better content is .. in the dlc...

It's more the general style of gameplay in the nu-Dooms that doesn't vibe that well with me. I abhor the "piňata" style resource management. For that alone, Doom 3 remains the better of the two, simply because it has the classic health/ammo management system. It also had an incredible atmosphere.

Other than that, 2016 was fine, with "mostly" manageable cringe levels for the story (though I will never forgive them for making UAC into caricature level villain), but they went all out on it in Eternal from what I could see. And also went even more in the arcadey style gameplay where you "hop" from one enemy to other just to make them spray rainbow shit that refills your resources.

true tho some weapons are more effective the idea of weapon swapping being a feature instead of a bug is annoying as you beg for ammo to drop.

the whole platforming thing is 100% super mario 3 filler content to pad the play time.

the overly colorful environments and lacking music that does little to keep the atmosphere alive.. some people still think bfg division is in eternal yet never heard it there.

and then www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGK1dr-Ql0w&pp=0gcJCdgAo7VqN5tD
this guy goes on to show them how it's done going on to fill tons of fps's with gold.

and i get to be ear raped by a xylophone at the end of super gore nest... in some attempt at recreating the nostalgia from Descent

i can go on all day about it's mistakes.
now will id software try pass off the same this is sparta joke?

you know what really cooks peoples brains... when you weapons swap like that in ss2

Playing id's games for their "story"... Well, that's a choice. Seriously, they're all pretty bad or inconsequential - if they exist at all - in old and new alike. They're just there for set dressing and/or as vehicles to get the player moving along.

ahh the old.. john carmack argument.
he was a programmer not a writer.
and yes many of us were on the edge of our seat after 2016's ending dying to see where the slayer ends up and how he gets back at hayden... so you have to admit there is something there we were deprived of.

1. closure
2. revenge
3. how the hell we got to doom eternal all of a sudden.

it's a very low IQ narrative to say it's story was bad, because it means you could not absorb it.

oh yeah and one more sad political truth...
0 requests for Doomicorn
100000 for DoomGal

Yes, but it still doesn't mean making it into a farce is free of risk. A point to be doing what you are doing is pretty much mandatory. The story screens in the old Dooms are sufficient. But the nu-Dooms go pretty out of their way with cutscenes and story/lore segments, like they want you to take it seriously. Though the only "interesting" story moment in 2016, where the protagonist shows at least the slightest bit of character, is when he makes a backup of Vega. Otherwise, it's "ME SHASH" while UAC holograms around you are constantly shouting "Possess me daddy!!!!".

the point being at the point they woke him from his crypt.. he was sick of their garbage.
actions spoke louder.
