rtcvb32: I'd recommend using a small air compressor and just blowing off/out the dust... Probably best to blow in through the fans and out any air vents it has, or through any openings (like CD drive if it's built that way), same for dealing with a computer.

lilliput2233: Are you referring to compressed air ?? I read about that online as solution to clean PC .. I don't know how to use it though ..
Yes, although i'm referring to a long term investment rather than small cans that have limited quantity... Considering the cans are $5-$15 and each can's worth is good for cleaning out a PC once maybe...

See amazon page, i'd recommend filling the tank, setting to 40 PSI and spray away... Although having the appropriate attachment helps... I actually use the multi-set for filling up basketballs and just change out the head for a forward spray of air.

Results may vary...

lilliput2233: I already have respiratory issues to take care of and find it so difficult to cope with asthma but the static dust keeps accumulating on all the electronic stuff I have and my PS4 is like a dust magnet . I am fed up of cleaning it .

What should I do ?

Pardinuz: Get an air purifier. :) No dust in the air, no dust in your PS.
avatar
lilliput2233: Do you use one ?
I was kind of joking when I suggested that but it's actaully a good solution if you can afford one.

I'll buy one soon because Beijing air pollution is so terrible but my laptop will also be happy I won't have to open and clean it every other month.
You can do what I do with my PS3: covering it with a plastic bag when you don't use it. It's a simple way to avoid too much dust on it, also it SHOULD increase console's life because less dust will enter inside it (dust kills every electronic device in long terms).
Have a look at frozencpu a site in USA. They have some console cases, one may help

Cheers

snowkatt: whats wrong with console games ?
Nothing, in case of exclusives but otherwise you can play them better on a PC.
I think each Playstation generation has had some dual-purpose role.

Playstation was also a good CD player.

PS2 was a functional DVD player.

PS3 was a functional Blueray player.

PS4 works wonders as an electronic air cleaner, apparently.
I'm guessing washing it is a bad idea......................?

eh some times you just want to play the game and not worry about anything else
I would not use compressed air as it will only blow the dust in the air where it will be more easy for your nose to pick it up. Covering it up when not in use is a good idea, that's what my father does with his printer.

how does one clean consoles and electronics in general anyway ?
even when i get the dust off some off my machines it still gets in to the grooves

Despite what I just said, compressed air is the usual way, wear a mask if you suffer from a respiratory disease. There is a risk of static buildup from the air friction that can damage some type of electronic components. I have never seen it happen though but it is a real possibility. I have seen cases of static damaging electronic by touching it while ungrounded, you don't even need to feel it.

i can but give it a whirl
its annoying to have a clean saturn and have its grooves filled with dust

djranis: does using air purifier cause any health risk, i have seen many articles but most seem to dodge the issue
My friend you are a little bit misguided here . Air purifiers with ionizing action are the ones to be avoided. There is health risk because ionizers release ozone (lung irritant) and Formaldehyde ( which is said to be linked to cancer).

Apart from this most of the modern day air purifiers which have HEPA standard are very good since they not only get rid of dust but also mold spores, pet dander, smoke and a plethora of other nasty stuff which would otherwise enter our body. Also these days the filter technology is so advanced that even few airborne viruses can be trapped by these air purifiers.

For instance the patented e2f filter used here in this air purifier (http://go-clair.com/) can trap particles which are as small as 0.1 microns !

lilliput2233: I thought air purifiers are for health reasons right ? never heard of anyone using it for getting rid of PC dust.
Yes they are for health reasons but you can use them for getting rid of PC dust by positioning the air purifier in a way where the air enters the air purifier before it enters your PC. This way you can trap all the dust and also you have the added advantage of cleaner air inside your room. Why spend more when you can benefit from just using a simple room air purifier for both health reasons and as well as keeping static dust at bay.
