Well I guess this thread has turned into something else. I originally started to give others an idea of boycotting Steam until this is all fixed, and shed some light on my otherwise silent action, not another angry "RAGE AGAINST STEAM" thread.

In the original post, I posted that there was some rage, and that that rage has been noted:

"...which you've probably read all 1 million reasons why a million times already, but I didn't intent for this thread to be about the rage.

i'm not really raging against steam. well i am but i'm not really anyway. people laud steam as this great service when in reality it's nowhere close to what it should be. as someone who has both steam and origin installed, i don't see much difference between either service. yes there are benefits to having steam, but ultimately those benefits are negligible as far as i'm concerned when they're tied to DRM.

to me, though, i think the attitude surrounding steam seals it for me. people seem to treat valve as this infallible organization because they happened to make a couple of games people liked 10 years ago. worse yet, people at valve don't seem to really care that much about their consumers beyond providing a store to sell cheap games. of course, that's just my impression of the company. i could be way off base, but that's how i feel.

You're good. I was actually talking about some of the guys above you. I do agree that people tend to view Valve as infallible (but portal and TF2 are still awesome games), but if this doesn't change, I think that view will.

One of the reason people love GOG is because they're willing to listen to their customers' unhappiness (Look back at the regional pricing issue for a great example). Time will tell if Valve will do the same.

In other news, without Steam, I'm working on Mass Effect 2 and Neverwinter Nights 1. I never finished my playthrough of Baldur's Gate 1 I started about a year ago (about 15 hours or so in), so once I'm finished with the former two, I'll probably pick that back up again.

What are you guys playing if you're taking a break from Steam?

I'm not mad about Steam monetizing anything. I'm not using it ;)
Never buy anything thats not a official release of the game , you end up ruining the original taste of the game.

I am sure most of the mods that will remain free will provide the same enjoyment as the paid mods.

If this kicks on,then you won't find many free mods.Think about it,if I make a mod why
wouldn't I charge people to use it?

It will create that effect but its the consumers who decide to vote with their wallet or not.

Yes, fair enough. But my point is free mods will eventually disappear.

Pretty much for the games on steam that have workshop support , i am sure the others aka 2k, microsoft and what not will be jumping into it soon.

There is no low that cant be reached in gaming , paid guides, paid reviews, paid views , paid dlc , paid mods , paid settings, paid exclusive release etc etc.

Hopefully This fails to make a profit and dies

We can hope it dies, but I doubt it.A new avenue to make money from is hard to put down.

Diablo 3 or other Battle.NET games.

I can't be arsed to play old games with so called retro graphics anymore.
Jeez why isnt gog taking advantage of this , first and foremost they should have a huge sale on gog games that have mods here for those new people jumping from steam.

Well presumably it takes time to arrange sales. I'd like to think they've had a chance to talk to publishers about a sale next week for this and we'll see a "mod sale" during the week or next weekend, but unfortunately they may plan these weeks in advance. We'll see I guess!

If nothing else I think they put up some more Mod Spotlights. :)
Gopher, who is a modder himself, discusses Steam paid mods and the issues surrounding it in great detail.
