HG1995: Thanks for info about BASSMIDI.. Couldn't get WIN 7 Pro 64 bit to recognize MUNT driver no matter what I did.
Tried the edits OP used in the games dosbox config file but that didn't work for me.
Dosbox finds MUNT emulator device but only got basic sounds until I got MT-32 emulator set as default midi synth.
Good it works, albeit I am nowadays using VirtualMIDISynth instead of BASSMIDI in Windows 7.

I think in Windows 8 and especially Windows 10, editing the midi device to the DOSBox config file (or using ScummVM's built-in MT-32 support) is the preferred way, maybe even the only way, IIRC BASSMIDI or VirtualMIDISynth can't change the default MIDI device anymore in Windows 10, meaning you can't change the Munt driver to be the default MIDI device that way anymore (I haven't tried it, but that's what I've heard). I presume they can be used for General MIDI music though, to use better General MIDI soundfonts.

So I think it is more futureproof to learn how to edit the DOSBox config file to use the Munt MIDI device, without having to use either BASSMIDI or VirtualMIDISynth. Are you sure you put the right MIDI device in DOSBox config?

Geralt_of_Rivia: Bassmidi and Munt are for two different things. The first emulates General Midi/General Synth and the other emulates older Roland synthesizers (MT-32, etc.). You should install both if you like to play old games with midi music and they both work just fine under Win7 64bit.
BASSMIDI or VirtualMIDISynth can be used to set the Munt MT-32 driver as the default Windows MIDI device, in which case you'd hear MT-32 sounds without having to directly edit the DOSBox config file to use a different MIDI device. So BASSMIDI served two different purposes for a classic PC gamer:

1. For Roland MT-32 music games, it allowed changing Windows default MIDI device to the Munt driver.

2. For General MIDI music games, it allows one to use better General MIDI soundfonts, as well as enabling some Sound Canvas GS extensions (like reverb, usage of different drum sets etc.), in case a game supported those.

But as said, that (1.) doesn't necessarily work anymore in Windows 10, so there changing the DOSBox config may be necessary (in order to get MT-32 sounds with the Munt driver).

Went back and checked dosboz config and checked in dosbox midi device list with mixer /list midi and MT-32 synth emulator is device 1. Here's config settings for midi:
[midi]
# mpu401 -- Type of MPU-401 to emulate: none, uart or intelligent.
# device -- Device that will receive the MIDI data from MPU-401.
# This can be default,alsa,oss,win32,coreaudio,none.
# config -- Special configuration options for the device. In Windows put
# the id of the device you want to use. See README for details.

mpu401=intelligent
device=default
config=1
In win 7 sound settings there was no midi device at all not even the Microsoft GS wavetable synth. But dosbox finds it
Again thanks for info and help.

Of course you shouldn't forget to set DosBox to actually use these devices and configure the game to output midi music to General Midi or MT-32. Back in the day all that stuff had to be configured by hand in every game.

Hint: If you are not sure if you installed Bassmidi and Munt correctly google for and download some old MT-32 and General Midi files and get a media player software that can play midi files and allows setting different output devices. If you can play them then the problem is with the DosBox or game configuration. If you can't then tinker with Bassmidi and Munt configuration until you can at least play midi files because then you know they are set up correctly.
Thanks for info.
MUNT works when I've selected it as default midi device with Bassmidi. MUNT displays that dosbox is using it. but when trying to get Munt fully working just with dosbox it only plays basic sounds. And Munt doesn't show anything just a blank window.. I rechecked config with what Phils done in the video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=be6y9FKr688&feature=youtu.be

And all seems correct in there. Also did the driver change in resource file. Also MUNT is setup correct.
I must have done something just off in install

EDIT: Got munt working the same as tutorial by changing config= to midiconfig= and now dosbox finds munt with no problems and I don't have to start GUI.

Edit: The Gog forum is removing the final "/" from the link. You will have to add it yourself.

Edit 2: Fixed. My bad. Link works now.

Is it really? Let me test that.

Edit:
No it isn't, you just formatted it incorrectly. You only put the slash in the link text, not in the URL. The quoted link in this post works.

I had put the final slash in the link and it was moved outside the url tag when I submitted the post. Strange it works in the quote.

Oh no, it works in the quote because I fixed it in the quote. The forum didn't remove it for me.

Hmm, nor was it removed when I quoted us both. Welp, time to clear my browser cache or something.

I see where I went wrong. I edited the text rather than the URL 'cause they are identical and I was careless. My bad.

Also, submitting a URL without the tags auto adds tags, omitting the final slash.

Ah, that'll be the problem then. I never post URLs without URL tags, so I haven't come across that before.
