So I have brought my laptop with me on a vacation and decided to install some games I have purchased on GOG to an external hard drive through GOG Galaxy, and I am wondering if it is possible to migrate the games from the external HDD back to GOG Galaxy on my desktop PC? Does it work the same way as migrating game folders between different drives on Steam?

Thanks.

Copy games across

Click cog in top left corner of Galaxy
Hover over "Add Games & Friends"
-> Click Scan Folders For GoG games

Should just scan them straight in.

Download offline installers from the webpage, copy them wherever, install them wherever. Win.

So I tried the Scan Folders feature and while it does import the games from my external HDD after clicking "Select Folder", the game folders stay on the external HDD that when i unplug it I can't play any of the game even though they are in my "installed" library because the games files are nowhere to be found on the GOG Galaxy folders on my PC.

I have tried copying a game file from the external HDD to the Games folder in the GOG Galaxy file but it doesn't work. Nothing shows up in me installation library on Galaxy.

Answer in two parts. First, you can download offline installers, copy them wherever and install wherever, simple, and then ask galaxy to scan for installed games to find it.
The second part of the answer is my personal favourite, achievements are utterly and completely pointless and your life will be far better without them. I just hit an achievement, I pressed some keys, woohoo!

One could just as easily say the exact same thing about playing games in general.

Many people enjoy earning Achievements, just like many people enjoy playing games. The latter is not more "purposeful" nor "valid" than the former.

For the first part, I think you misunderstood.

You first need to copy your game folders to your PC, into the usual install folder.
Then you do the Scan Folders bit, to scan on you PC, not relocate from Laptop to PC, as I am not aware that Galaxy does any such thing.

For the second part, it sounds like you were expecting Galaxy to automatically pick up game folders copied to the Games folder in Galaxy. That won't happen, and it is why there is a Scan Folders option.

Did you get your achievement for pressing double quotes 4 times in one post?

As an edit, I think its because they call them "achievements" it irks me so much. If they just said social trophies or something I wouldnt even know they exist.
