Darvond: D) Occasionally called up Capcom to ask if they can use the Umbrella logo.
Capcom has no legal authority on something too generic to copyright; that's how That Umbrella Guy gets away with his Rorschach avatar with the Umbrella logo for a mask.

Lionel212008: Movies and TV Shows with a resident evil feel that imbibe the raw horror that the series offers.

BreOl72: "28 days later" and "28 weeks later"?

Edit:
"REC" (Spain)
I have seen this one and .REC 2. Both are fantastic. The English adaptation (Quarantine) was a poor rip off. This is such a good film. 28 days later and weeks later are amazing but not very RE like in the sense of .Rec was.

Crosmando: Resident Evil seems to be cursed, as every attempt to "adapt" them turns into the worst garbage imaginable.
Indeed. Hence, I am looking for movies that are not directly based on the franchise.

Linko64: The BBC News these days tbh

Try The Strain, at least in some degree
I have read the novel and watched the series too. Ofc, the books are better, but I am glad that a TV adaptation exists.

CyberBobber: Modern Horror is horrible, in the 90s they did much better stuff.
As a 80s-90s kid, I couldn't agree more. However, there are some gems like hereditary, the haunting of hill house, .Rec, and The Babadook (to name a few).
avatar
Darvond: Well. domples to domples, the Netflix adaptation was a complete shambles.

Feels like they:
A) Fed the series bible into a paper shredder.
B) Adapted an unrelated Young Adult Drama series.
C) Slapped Zombies in.
D) Occasionally called up Capcom to ask if they can use the Umbrella logo.

IS IT REALLY SO HARD TO MAKE AN ADAPTATION OF SWEET HOME, WHICH RESIDENT EVIL 1/BIOHAZARD WAS DIRECTLY INSPIRED BY?
I don't think that it is hard to adapt, but more of a case of lacking a competent enough screenplay and storyline. Hell, even the Silent Hill film seems pretty good compared to anything Resident Evil film or tv. .REC is a good example of how they could approach a Resident Evil film.

Maybe Train to Busan. It does have a very game feel similar to the early Resident Evils with a focus on just to survive and get out alive.

I dont think the Resident Evil plots are bad, just really really simple. The first 3 games are essentially just focused on trained individuals struggling to survive. There was no focus on revenge, politics regarding the undead, etc. Just survive and escape the zombie apocalypse. The strike against Umbrella is where the story starts to get off the rails which really only occurs in Code Veronica, 5, and 6 with 7 and 8 essentially a return to form with Ethan.

andysheets1975: Go to the source and watch the original George Romero movies - Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, and Day of the Dead. They're literally the origin of every modern non-voodoo take on zombies. Romero was supposedly even in talks to make the first Resident Evil movie but it fell through.
I would add the remakes of [night of the living dead 1990 and day of the dead 2008.

or weird old eurohorror films like Burial Ground.
I absolutely loved train to Busan, but I haven't seen its sequel. Even Kingdom was such a breath of fresh air in the somewhat stale zombie horror genre. All of us are dead has a rather piquant resident evil feel as well.

I'd certainly check out Burial Ground. I really liked some of the early Lucio Fulci's films and intend to rewatch some of those over the weekend.

The original Night of the Living Dead is one of my favorite films. There is something truly unsettling about black and white horror films like Nosferatu, the aforementioned Romero classic, the haunting, and Frankenstein.

Lionel212008: I love the RE games and am replaying them. The TV shows and movies from the franchise are somewhat disappointing though. Instead, I would love to look at some alternatives (not from the RE franchise) that imbibe the raw horror that the series offers.
Ironically, none of the RE movies or the RE TV Show really fit this.

Quarantine (movie 2008) is good. It is a remake of [REC]

Which is why I said RE universe alternatives. Quarantine was pretty bad. I loved .REC on the other hand.

Try Dead Set from Charlie Brooker, Black Mirror creator. After watching this, other series on the topic become to look like zombies themselves: same, slow and stodgy.

I have seen it. Nevertheless, it is an excellent recommendation. I would place Kingdom (Korean) a notch higher when it comes to tv shows.
Hi everyone,

Absolutely, I understand your frustration with the Resident Evil movies and TV shows not quite hitting the mark. If you're craving that same raw horror vibe, you might find solace in exploring shows like Castle Rock. While not directly related to Resident Evil, it offers a similar atmosphere of suspense and dread, with its eerie small-town setting and mysterious happenings. If you can facing any kind of issue you can visit (castlemod.com/castle-for-pc/).It's a refreshing departure from the disappointments of the RE adaptations, offering a new avenue to satisfy your craving for that chilling experience.

Wish you best of luck!
