I am unable to use the "Search" function, (this is posted in another thread), to locate instructions on how to properly move games from one device to another device, either laptop to desktop, or internal HDD to external HDD. I currently use a laptop, but will soon be using a desktop. I would like to move my games from the laptop to the desktop.

Is there a specific procedure for doing this? Do I simply "copy-and-paste", (or "move"), the "GOG Galaxy" folder and subfolders to the new location; then repoint the GOG Galaxy application to look at the new location? Or is this process more involved than that?

Thank you.

You can install Galaxy on both machines, then copy the games folder to the new machine, and import the games to Galaxy. Galaxy should then verify and repair them, adding any missing registry entries and dependencies, though a year or so back when I was doing this procedure it did miss a couple of dependencies.
Alternatively, you can download the installers and use those to install your games, but that would be wasted bandwidth for games you've already installed.
Feel free to ask for more information once you start moving your games, though it has been some time since I last did that.

Search function is broken for me too on Galaxy client. However, search works fine on a browser.

Having offline(classic) installers downloaded is a good idea - as an insurance against any technical problem you might face. Just have them backed up on an external HDD.

JMich,

Thank you. I was hoping the process was as easy as what you described. Where would I find the older, offline installers?

bhrigu makes a great point, as well, and having a backup set of installers, (if more than one is needed), is a good practice.
