The Marble is a pure wired trackball. I got mine for 5 bucks at a thrift store, so...I probably saved a buttload comparatively.

What a patriot like you needs is this USA themed wireless mouse. As seen here.

Telika: Nice concept. But the obligatory wired mousepad defeats the point of wirelessness a bit...
Yes, I suppose it depends on why you want wireless in the first place (That's not the mouse you use in the train :-)

Looks to me as if the product page for the Marble is quickly cut-and-pasted from discarded pages they don't need any more.

Batteries? Every damned product image shows a cord!
Does not work on clear glass or mirrors? It's a fucking trackball, it tracks the damned ball, not movement over a tabletop.

WARNING! UNPRODUCTIVE CONTENT:
At work I use an old Microsoft Trackball Explorer, which I find is quite awesome (and not only for the reason that no one else dare touch the thing because they don't understand the concept of trackballs, so I get to keep my machines for myself). Good luck finding a new one to a reasonable price nowadays though.

the creature I had been shortly considering was the m570 mouse-trackball hybrid monster. It is wireless. But nicely weird. But not recharging by itself, so, screw that.

Also, for the anecdote, the mouse I'm using today is a rapoo 5g, and, well, not the perfect long-term solution.
I understand the desire to not futz with batteries - I bought a solar keyboard a couple months back and I've had solar calipers for a few years now - but we have a Logitech M705 at the house that has gone 6+ months so far on a single pair of AAs and it has been turned on the entire time. That's a pretty low level of annoyance.

I have the m570 trackball and like it a lot. For my games it works great, but if I am working on spreadsheets I prefer a traditional mouse.

I'm curious. Does the trackball help, in games ? How ?

Oh. All-right. That one has the insane thumb-ball idea though, which would make me say "screw that" regardless. But that's a personal preference, I much prefer designs where the ball's under the fingers (such as the aforementioned Trackball Explorer) rather than the thumb.

Yeah, the M705 is quite amazing. Mine's been used less heavily, but I haven't switched batteries since I got it a few years ago. My primary mouse at home is the Performance Mouse MX, which can be charged in use (charging cable connects with micro-USB, in the same place the cable would be on a wired mouse) - I haven't tried to see if it can be used fully wired though, or if the USB connector is only for charging.

For most games it is not really different, what it does is let me use the mouse just about anywhere, on the couch, etc. I don't need a flat surface to use it. Using it to play SC2 is pretty good. You just spin the ball to move your view of the map quickly. I can't say about FPS. If there need to be lots of really exact movements I wouldn't recommend it. Like I said, for Excel I prefer a traditional mouse, as when you lift your thumb from the ball it can cause the mouse to jerk a little.
I use the Logitech G700s, which uses the same USB recharging as the Performance mouse, and I can heartily recommend it.
