Hi, I just found out about this amazing game. Intrigued by the melee combat sndooem world. It’s on discount for £3.19.

Due to life commitments, I’ll likely only play this once. I have a 11 day window coming up where I can commit several hours a day to gaming.

For GOG version:

- Do the mods on the moddb site work for GOG version?

- What is the best mod in terms of graphical enhancements AI and additional features to the original Warbabd world and setting?

- What is the best total conversion mod to play eg. GOT Clash of Kings or A World of Ice and Fire? Do these mods add story missions to the original sandbox game?

- Are the combat controls better with keyboard and mouse. I have a XBox 360 for PC too.

Many thanks to any fellow gamer who can assist.

Play vanilla first - figure out what you might want to improve from there.

Native expansion is a good start to mods (though not a total conversion). Most of the games DLC started as TC mods though.

KB+M tends to be best - i found a controller to be very weird.

I agree with the guy above me. play some of the original game first. control wise, i'd stuck with a mouse and keyboard. and yes, moddb mods work just fine. the only mod I had issue with was the crusader mod, terrible performance. i'd hit like 10 fps in any city, but that was on a different computer so I don't know about it now.

btw its on xbox one, not the 360.

First off, 11 Days @ 2hrs a day likely won't get you far, it's a long game.

K&M is the way to play it.

Moddb mods, and nexus and most other sites mods all work with the gog version. It's only steam workshop which is locked to a platform.

In terms of mods, well there are a few native enhancements, floris is the big one and is used in plenty of other mods.
If you like game of thrones then clash of kings is nice (though haven't played it that much), and is not as hard as world of ice and fire.
Personally my favourites are in order:
Prophesy of pendor - this mod is probably the longest active, most developed mod out there. Factions, quests, total rework. It is a long long struggle though so be prepared.
Perisno - lots of new models/graphics, some really nice ideas. Taking towns is hard though as they have huge garrrisons.
Brytenwalda - another long running mod, focuses on foot combat where almost all the other mods are horse based. It's brutal.
Viking conquest + blood eagle - Viking. Conquest is the paid brytenwalda with a quest of sorts added in.

There are loads of other mods out there covering different races or struggles, different timepoints. Your best bet is to look at each and see what interests you. And do bear in mind games can be long. But it is a great game with so much extra content out there.
Brytenwalda - Free mod at Nexus, ModDB.

Viking Conquest - On sale here at GOG and made by the Brytenwalda team.

VC Balance Mod - Adds some useful tweaks, such as making archery a little more effective and makes Viking Conquest even more fun.

Mostly I've enjoyed these because I've been binge watching Vikings and The Last Kingdom recently, plus I prefer the historical setting rather than the fantasy world of Calradia, or those of other mods.

Likewise, I also prefer how the current version of Viking Conquest looks a lot more polished, particularly with character models and animations. The faces of characters in Native M&B just look so damn ugly now, although there's mods around for that too.

Before going into big mods / conversions (Prophecy of Pendor is great), I suggest first putting some time in on the 'vanilla' version. Combat takes a little time to get used to, and diving straight into a big mod without a good feel for using weapons and the overall game mechanics... well, you might be turned off by the added difficulty.
