Arghmage: You are just buying exactly the train and the track you want. <snip> Since you can spend easily over hundreds of hours on one track that is still a nice price for your buck.
Hmmm true. I'm reminded of my dad, he got tracks and trains back in the 80's and set up a whole rafters with his train set. (Then again he also worked at the railroad so he was intimately familiar with tracks and trains).

darthspudius: what happens if the DLC was created after the game? I know its a trendy thing to think it's taken out of the game and re-sold. Sometimes it is not the case.
All companies should publish official modding tools and optional settings or cheats.
Otherwise selling even DLC that is created after the game is immoral because the company has too much power and too little incentive to deliver quality.
(I'd say "in my opinion" but come on. It's really immoral to take that kind of advantage of the instincts of your paying completionist customers)

In other words: If you want to sell playable characters or skins as DLC, it is only morally acceptable if you give your customers the power to make ones themselves.

timppu: Deciding whether to buy a game is hard enough as it is, no reason to extend that to little micro-expansions for the base game (other than deliberately confusing the customers so that many of them would break down and buy all the DLCs anyway, for a premium price).
You don't say. And without purchasing some of those micro-trasnactions, BASE-game features that exist and you find them in BASE-game, cannot be used; much like the phantom entities that are invisible without the quest/item.
Map packs in general. "Hey kids, wanna spend 15 to 30 dollars in a pack that will add 2-3 maps to your game? What you mean overpriced? Fuck you, give us money!"

Don't forget, if any of your friends get the map-pack and you don't, then there's going to be games you are excluded from, and it's annoying...

One of the reasons i loved the original Starcraft game, if you didn't have the map you'd download it from the host.
Dead or Alive 5's costumes... that is all.
this type of DLC is just plain stoopid:

Moonchild - Super Savefiles: http://store.steampowered.com/app/464130 <-- paying for save files?

I am forced to reconsider. Recent developments dictate, that the most laughable DLC ever, for me, is the one to Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition; "Siege of Dragonspear"!

Laughable beyond what words can describe, so pathetic that it actually forced me to refund ALL my Beamdog titles, with bitter regrets as to what the money i "invested" in those stooges became and what it allowed them to come up with... I was expecting something like a Baldur Gate 3 and instead of it, a major clusterf*ck of a piss poor quality DLC, full of SJW w@nk, even!

Thank god, gog and owner of gog, for allowing the dedicated customer the ability to refund offensive, intrusive garbage! Truly gog loves and caters to its customers and respect the people who do business with them!

Keep sucking up.
The Dragon Age/Mass Effect DLC thing was pretty bad. WTF. Oh, I just got the new Mass Effect 2 game. Looks like I get a free DLC from Dragon Age that lets me turn my space man into a medieval knight because... reasons.

The next time I play Crusader Kings 2 I'll be sure to give the king of Aragon his own jet-pack.

I don't think CKII is beyond that. They're really running out of ideas for crap DLCs.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. Most of its DLC is crap (basically, everything except the Echo Six campaign), but the Costume Pack takes the cake.

1) They're not costumes, they're palette swaps. ONE per character. Not even new textures, it just gives you a slightly different shade of so-dark-it-might-as-well-be-black.
2) It only works in Campaign mode, so half the playable characters (the aforementioned Echo Six, whose campaign is played via Free Mission mode) don't get alternate colours.
3) Even in single-player, you can only change your own costume. bots always wear the default And remember this is an over-the-shoulder shooter, so for the most part you can barely SEE the costume you've paid to (slightly) customise
4) The lighting is so **** that nothing looks the right colour anyway.

Naturally, it also has the obligatory "Render the entire upgrade system pointless by making weapons more powerful than anything you would otherwise earn available right from the start" DLC, but at least some of those guns are cool, even if they unbalance the game.

Theoclymenus: Gone are the days of epic expansion packs, here are the days of not-so-epic "DLC". What are the most ridiculous examples of DLC available to gamers ?
Every DLC ever released.

That's good. They can bring it here then without the need for constant updates :-)

EDIT: CKII that is, not the jetpack of Aragon :-P
