http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2015/06/microsoft-takes-on-the-conference-room-with-surfaces-84-inch-20000-sibling/

and is meant for conference rooms
"about the size of a flatscreen TV"?

It's 84 inches. Seven feet diagonal. What sort of behemoth television do you own?

EDIT: Incidentally, it's still only a 4k display, so in 84 inches it has the same number of pixels that I have in 28. Good thing you're meant to be a good distance away.

Why on earth would anyone get this over a TV + desktop? Latter is cheaper, upgradable, and predictable.

its for conferences and aimed at businesses ?

its not meant for consumers the 20 grand price tag alone should say as much

and a set up you mentioned is inherently finnicky with this thing you just have to point at the screen

Wasn't that basically the first idea for Surface?

EDIT: Apparently that was later renamed PixelSense.

I've seen TV, big monitors and projectors all used, but never a wall-mounted tablet. With all-in-ones becoming so prevalent, I can't think of a usecase for this thing.

Leaving aside the cost, it uses a custom version of Win10. The article mentions that it can use WinStore apps, but doesn't mention anything else. Sounds like it can't use Win32 programs, which is a significant adoption barrier.
Enhance.

i guess because they can? projector-screens found in conference rooms or auditoriums do have a lot of limitations. and guess it's easily to point and move stuff around on a touchscreen while speaking to an audience.
