Is there a reason why GoG has never released the Mechwarriors? Is someone holding them hostage? I got an itch to play some good mech games again and I lost my old MW4 CD's and I don't want to dish out the $100 or so dollars to buy all the used CD's of 2-4 and find out some or most of the games don't work.
Probably the same reason a crapton of other games aren't here: rights. Some of the rights to games are so convoluted it makes the Gordian Knot look like a straight edge.
Mechwarrior is one of those games that gets mentioned in "Why isn't it here?" threads at least a couple times each year. A lot of folks have fond memories playing those games, and would love too see that rabbit get pulled out of the hat.

I think I played only one of them, along with the free-release MechCommander games, and would enjoy trying out the others. Just one more reason I need to pick up a new joystick...
a freeware version of MW4 should still be available for download... somewhere. mektek also released assaulttek , which used a similar game engine.

this might help.

and there's total crysis conversion "living legends". that would require having crysis warhead i think.

mechcommander 1 and 2 SHOULD still be considered freeware. source codes was released by microsoft long ago, and some peeps compiled them. as for the download files, i'm not sure if the websites that hosted them are still alive. google or abandonia?
