Firebrand9: Just wanted to point out this sale going on to anyone interested in hard-core strategy games. Games like Gary Grigsby's War in in the East/West series, normally expensive at $80!! are currently half price. Happy hunting :
Thnaks for the tip. I picked Alea Acta Est and Distant Worlds Universe up. There are a lot of other games that interest me, but I guess those two games will take their time till one has played them through.

Firebrand9: As DampSquib said, they give you a serial which just may need a temporary internet connection to activate.
That's a huge difference if a server can reject the install or not.

de_Monteynard: I bought Chariots of War and I can strongly recommend it. It is a bit on the simplistic side compared to the other wargames on offer, but it is highly enjoyable and a massive time sink. Plus, the Bronze Age is a shamefully underexplored period in gaming.

As for AGEod titles, I recommend Revolution under Siege Gold, Rome series of games (AJE, Birth of Rome and their DLC scenarios) and Rise of Prussia. If you can only pick up one of their titles, pick Revolution, as it is a pinnacle of their design and engine use in my opinion. Pride of Nations is a generally fantastic game, but may not be as interesting in single player and in my experience, you will need to learn to script a couple of events (not that difficult) to help the AI along.
Thank you for the recommendations. I think I will go with Revolution under Siege then. The time of bolshevik revolution and their war of conquests against the whites is a very interesting period of history.

It doesn't though, because it's an unlock serial not an authentication one.

You don't need any internet for the serial to work.

What?! Why the hell would that happen if you bought it legitimately? What sort of conspiracy theory bizarro world do you live in?
In a world where companies and their servers cease to exist.

Thanks for the clarification.

Excellent choice! Speaking of which, I recommend that you buy it on the official AGEod website. Although their "merger" with Matrix/Slitherine seems stable (far more than the time they were part of Paradox), if you buy it direct from AGEod, then you are assured to have access to the game should something happen to your installer. I cannot speak for Matrix customer support, but as long as you have proof of purchase for an AGEod title, AGEod will provide you with a download link.

FWIW...
It works the same as here, once purchased the game/s appear as a download in your account info (Members area )
As long as you keep your account, you can redownload anytime you please.

Thanks for the info. I started buying AGEod's games from before they had anything like an Account System and when there were time limits on the download links. Still, buying directly from the developer helps them more.

Fair point. Not all applications demand a response on verification though. Anyways..

I just verified for you with one of their more expensive games (Gary Grigsby's War in the East and both expansions). I use a third-party firewall (Zonealarm) that alerts and demands me ok all in-bound and out-bound network traffic. It never once asked for internet access in the entire install and subsequent running of the game (the main menu might need internet access if you click on one of the web-based links for the developer or forum site).

So, yes. End-to-end, requires no internet access. As stated prior, it's an unlock code.

Thank you for testing that.
Thanks and bump I guess.

Got myself John Tiller's Campaign Series... a previous collection called Europe in Flames (EF2 and WF) was one of maybe 3 games I actually brought physically with me when I moved to Poland... the digital edition over at Matrix also includes Rising Sun... already installed it... over numerous other games in the backlog... reacquainted myself with the horrible UI... and how the graphics really could use a facelift...

What can I say... nostalgia is a thing... :) I still enjoy it...
Close Combat nostalgia here I come!
Anyone played the Battle Academy games? They look like cartoony versions of Company of Heroes. I think they're on the sale list.
