I would change my name a bit more often, but every other time it messes things up, like making it hard for people to PM me via the normal methods or (sometimes) removing names from my friends list.
(sometimes it also temporarily wipes my favorited threads list in the forums for a bit as well)

Considering the state of mental health in this world, I don't think need has anything to do with it; in terms of pathological "needs", however, the sky -- or one's imagination -- are the limit. GOG can do this more easily and efficiently than anyone else can, so why wouldn't they? My download speed has been gimped for months now, is that a coincidence? Maybe, but I doubt it. No point in complaining, but given what I've seen of these jokers through the years, and people in general, it would be surprising if they weren't behaving like vindictive children, because THAT is part and parcel of the "new normal". Look at how doxing is considered acceptable nowadays.

I was thinking about buying the new Pathfinder release here, but Steam doesn't gimp my download speed, and they don't pretend to be something they're not. As for "ownership", what's that worth when you can't reliably download the files you've paid for?

Another reason GOG would do it is to discourage peeps from bumping "bad" threads. Very efficient, especially as it eliminates the need to moderate individual posts. They'd be stupid not to do it, given how much they value freedom of expression.

On GOG and steam: I started buying on GOG(long ago), in part because I liked the easy to install games on offer....i.e. much easier than needing to make a DRM free backup of games(like I sometimes have to do with steam). I still sometimes bought steam games as they're often cheaper, but after awhile I just sort of stuck with GOG more and more because "all in one place convenience" and the like.....then over the years i've cut back due to some of GOG's various questionable business choices.

Yeah, it means I sometimes have to make those DRM free backups of bought games again, but eh.....

I know, right? Btw, the Amyl and the Sniffers vid I linked is also quite nice as well.

Again, why would they have to do it when the usual suspects among the user base will do it for some of the same reasons?
(my guess is that some of them low rate entire threads to see them get less posts as well)

What are you waffling about now? I simply mean my suspicion was that Jorev was calling them virtue signallers because they were wearing masks rather than because of anything else. Jorev's titling of the thread is in effect a form of virtue signalling, just with a different target demographic. Jorev wants us all to know that they're a mask skeptic.

It's purely performative and arguably closer to virtue signalling than wearing a mask is.
You don't know whether someone is wearing a mask because they believe it helps or because they are "virtue signalling", but I can't see any explanation for Jorev titling the thread this way other than to make sure everyone knows their barely relevant (to the video) opinion.
