I've been wathing a lot of super mario maker recently and I love watching it but the game is not for me:

1. I am not really creative so I have no desire to make levels
2. As far as I can tell the majority of user made levels are terrible for me because they all try to be kaizo mario or ridiculous without thinking about good level design. Fun to watch but not fun to play.

So I downloaded mario bros x and that seems like a good hack/fangame (not sure about the right name since this is standalone) after playing a few levels.

Can you guys recommend me some other great fan made games (mario). But again: main priority is good level design. The closest it gets to the original game the more i will like it.
Super Mario Maker? Damn it, I guess I'll have to think about getting a Wii U oO

Do it: i think it has a lot of amazing games. A lot more then ps4 or xbox one at the moment but I think ps 4 will eclipse it in a couple of years.
Aww no love for fan made mario huh?
Well, most of Mario hacks I saw were extreme difficulty hacks - hacks, where you could die before even starting the game... It is better to play vanilla Mario imo.

i will check out the first one! Thanks!
At first when I read the topic I imagined a comedy show "Mario Hacks" about an italian plumber trying his mad computor skills to hack various systems and networks. Episode 01: Mario Hacks The Pentagon.
After playing some mario x and some secret maryo chronicles I must say I really like mario x.

I don't really like maryo. I think they programmed it themselves so the jumping and other controls are off. Also the jumping is too floaty for my taste.

I heard recently that the WiiU has a far higher average metacritic score for its games. It just doesn't have a very strong library.

I don't have a WiiU, but thought it played amazingly at my bro's house. It's perfect for party games.

I'm holding out for their next machine. Rumor has it, it'll be $150 and may even support earlier titles. To be honest, Nintendo machines are *really* just Zelda machines for me. I play other things, but I get them for the Zeldas (and sometimes the Mario Carts). That said, N64 for was my last Nintendo machine I bought. My bro lent me his GC so I could play Twilight Princess, but it just didn't have staying power for me.

Fun fact: I have a Wii and... except from New Super Mario Bros. Wii (which came with the console) I only have Twilight Princess and Mario Kart Wii O.O Okay, I got the Wii mainly for the Virtual Console store, but... Yeah, you're right, modern Nintendo consoles are Zelda and Mario Kart.

I don't know... Super Mario Maker sounds awesome, but... I fear a Wii U will just gather dust. I loved the Wii for the Virtual Console and for playing Zelda with motion controls, but I don't need another box to collect Virtual Console titles. I do agree though that Xbox1 and PS4 are still far behind in good exclusives (most Wii U games are just not my cup of tea, but XB1 and PS4 are just lacking). I never found a console generation more useless than the current one :/
I can't help but think of the one mario3 hack that fundamentally changes how mb3 plays, plot, structure, etc. The first was Mario Adventure, adds weather effects, infinite lives, replaces all the levels... I found it really fun, that was years and years ago too.

The other is Mario Chronicles, which i am not so sure about but it looks promising.

Not technically a hack, but I happen to like Syobon Action. I see it as a different take on the genre; instead of trying to be fair, the game instead has traps that kill you in silly ways. (My definition of trap here: anything that punishes the player for doing something reasonable.)

Essentially, the challenge of the game comes from a few main aspects:
1. Memorizing where the traps are.
2. Solving the puzzles placed in the game. (My favorite are the end-of-level puzzels; If you have played the game, you know what I mean.)
3. Sometimes the execution can be tricky (end of stage 3, for example), but I don't see that as the primary challenge in the game.

I stumbled across a commercial indie game called Eryi's Action, played the demo up to the start of Stage 2, and enjoyed what I played of it. (Some of the deaths made me laugh hard, especially one particular one toward the end of what I played; I won't spoil it right now, but it comes at a time you wouldn't expect.)

Yeah i don't really like those. It's fun to watch them but I don't like to play them.
