According to a staff blog post on their website about the release of some of their titles here on GOG. Manga Gamer bring up that they hope to bring their entire catalog here as they feel Steam future for Visual Novels is uncertain between a removal of one of their games with no explanation for it and the whole "yeah despite working with us to make sure these things meet our guidelines, were warning you to fix them or we will remove them.", "no wait disregard that", "No wait again on second thought we are going to re-evaluate these first"

So you Visual Novel fans have a lot to look forward too down the road as these guys published alot of VNs with around 56 of them being on Steam. Well more around 55 as one was removed.

Personally i don't have a huge love for Visual Novels, they don't do it for me.

HOWEVER... that doesn't mean i wouldn't mind seeing them here and having a home where steam shoves them away. As long as they are well made, i'd welcome them here (even if i personally probably never buy any).

Though... i wouldn't mind seeing eroge games come to GoG, just put them in a 18+ or with appropriate headers/warnings...
Have you told LePeureux the good news? :D

That's a different statement than what the thread title says. Their full catalog and their Steam catalog are two different things, with their Steam catalog being worse.

I don't see how GOG could possibly become a better place for VN than Steam was --- unless GOG is going to allow totally uncensored VNs which were not allowed on Steam. But there is no indication that GOG is going to do that.

Under such exclusion/censorship conditions, neither Steam nor GOG is a good source for VN.

I think he meant in terms of acceptance and sales. Right now it seems Steam is maybe looking into doing away with them and even if they didn't the flooded mess that is Steam's store doesn't help. I heard many devs complain about it and had much better luck selling outside of Steam than they had in the past due to how fast a game gets buried on Steam now.

As for totally uncesored let's be honest that is never going to happen. GOG sells to many diffrent countries each with it's own set of laws many of which will have a issue with such stuff. America sadly being one of them, I can already hear the scandels now, I can already hear Fox News and Sinclair owned network affliates now: "Polish digital game store sells cartoon porn to kids." , "Are the polish trying to corrupt your children with cartoon sex games?" it would make the video nasties panic of England in the 1980's and the whole backlash against the Porn Chique era of the 70's in the US look tame. No, it's not going to happen.

Now for the mix up of the headline and the actual post, I made a mistake. happens.

Indeed, it's probably not. Thus, GOG is probably never going to be a good source for VN.

I wouldn't mind either, but sadly that's never going to happen. No more than GOG making a deal with Vinegar Syndrome, Something Weird, Panik House, Severin, Blue Underground, Mondo Macabro etc. and brining over their catalouges of delightfully sleazy exploitation and classic 70's-80's umm.."erotica" in the case of Vinergar Syndrome. It would be nice especially for me as I can get digital version of the films I already have like Burial Ground, Ms Magnificitant, Sex and Fury(a awesome Japanese Exploitation Film), Orgy of the Dead, One Million AC/DC etc. and could put my discs away in storage and free up some room.

But sadly between various laws in countries and also in the US payment processors having a fit and refusing to deal with *ahem* "Smut Peddlers" I belive was how it was phrased to the owner of Something Weird when the company handling their payment processing refused to do buissness with her or her company anymore.

For you maybe, but for the companies publishing them yeah. That is what matters, if they honestly gave a damn about having to censor releases they never would have bothered working with Valve to put them out on Steam in the first place nor would they bother to go to GOG when Steam started dicking them around. They would of just stayed in their own little sites selling their stuff. So yes it's good for VN's because they get exposer, they get sales and they hopefully can get people to get the really uncensored stuff that can't be sold on Steam or GOG on their site and for the censored stuff they just put out a simple patch to put back in the unaltered images which is hosted on their site and people may just look around and buy other titles from them directly.

I can't belive I have to spell this out for you. I now know how Lisa who runs Something Weird feels when ever she has to spell things out for people.

Nah, It will be far more funnier to see him explode when the next set of titles come in. Besides I'm still trying to convince GOG to start trying to sell DRM free Exploitation Films and such. Oh man if that happened I'm sure LePeurexeux would have a stroke because if he thought VN's with the possiblity of patching in anime boobies was bad..who boy, I can't image what would he would do if all the sudden GOG started selling Flesh Gordon(it's not a porno it's a sexsploitation film, so just boobies and simulated sex no actual hardcore) or Sex and Fury..

If the games sell on GOG, then I also hope they bring their catalogue on here. Hopefully a huge volume of games, such as that, will force GOG to finally establish a comprehensive list of reasons as to why they might reject a game. I'm tired of the "too niche" reasoning that apparently is used to clumsily dismiss certain games.
