Wishbone: He isn't talking about "Hello everyone", that was just the opening to his post. He's talking about the thread title, "Making logical sense".

HunchBluntley: Hence my post earlier: it's easily misconstrued.
I know, but dewtech's post came after yours, so he obviously hadn't read it ;-)
avatar
HunchBluntley: Also, speaking of redundacy: typing "Hello everyone" at the beginning of an OP in a public forum topic. =P
Yeah, there are a few users here who also have a habit of signing all their posts, as if we can't see who they are otherwise.

It's the Department of Redundancy Department at work (WARNING! Link goes to TV Tropes! You may get sucked in and not emerge for several weeks!)

It's probably not the intent in most cases, but their posts will at least be able to be found with the (non-userscript-enhanced) forum search.

Nah. It's kinda like chicken pox -- I've already been through that phase, so now I'm immune to getting sucked in. : ) (In fact, I've still got a folder in Firefox of nothing but bookmarked TV Tropes pages that I will, in most cases, probably never read. XD )
Somewhat related to the topic, I find it kinda funny that the statement "Tokyo is the capital of Japan implies that the earth orbits the sun" is true in propositional logic. It does not matter that Tokyo being the capital of japan has nothing to do with the earth orbiting the sun. Doesn't really make sense if you think about the word "implies" in the sense it is used outside of logic.

dewtech: ...
Heh! If you speak Swedish, translate me Hejsan Svejsan. Worse redundancy :D
...
As far as I'm aware "svejsan" doesn't mean anything. It is just some gibberish added in order for the greeting to sound more informal and jolly. "Hejsan" is, already, an informal way of saying hello and "svejsan" makes it even more informal and silly. So there isn't really any redundancy here.

Randalator: We feel more satisfied buying a pair of $40 dollar jeans if they are discounted from a fictional $60 dollars price tag during a sales period instead of buying the same pair of jeans undiscounted for $40 all year round. Attempting to establish the latter system is killing JCPenney right now.
avatar
HunchBluntley: I'm pretty sure Penney's eased off on that, and might have killed that experiment entirely. I don't know if they have as many sales as they did before they enacted that policy, but they do have somewhat regular sale discounts once more.
I apologize for putting a greeting at the start of my posts. I didn't realize it was a nuisance. I'll try not to make that mistake again.

It was a joke. Hence the " =P ".

Ha ha! Wow, I'm afraid I forgot to apply some logical sense.
If it isn't logical, it doesn't make sense. Makes perfect sense am I right?

I haven't quite ran into "logical nonsense" unless were talking about a logic equation that has a few errors in it.
