Yeah, a bugged console game could be genuinely ruined by bugs forever, since there's no possibility of fan patches and/or mods to fix them.

Consoles are really not my thing. But since the developers know in which environment it will be played, I expected that it would be easier to avoid major bugs since it can be better tested before release.
It seems it is not that simple.

It's probably easier to avoid hardware-related issues, for obvious reasons. Not sure consoles have any better a time with software bugs, though. I mean, console to PC ports often have more issues on PC, but that probably has more to do with porting than anything else.

And the problem is that there's no good way for the community to do bugfixes on consoles. At least nowadays console games can be patched, though.

I can barely remember but there's one with Quest for Glory III, when you do the initiation contest against Yusufu.
The game just crash and there's almost nothing you can do about it.
I did something to bypass the glitch but i don't remember what it is.

In "the old days" there was no easy way to release patches and fixes either.

The way I see it, developer tools are becoming better, but the games are also more complex. Also, developers are becoming a little bit more sloppy and don't get to know the systems so well. There is also a bigger pressure from their bosses for releasing earlier. The ability to distribute updates instantly is also also a factor.
All of this is true for both PCs, consoles and now mobile phones.

I expect that in the future, there will be less of a difference between them.
We will probably just purchase a thin client and play games remotely. Instant updates! One single platform! Zero install! Pay per play! No game will be ruined forever (unless they will).

I remember when my Fallout save got corrupted on the Master's lair. I couldn't take the elevator, as every choice possible led to a crash to desktop. I was really pissed back then.

Wing Commander: Privateer, the bug where you take a mission to destroy pirates or whatever in a certain sector only to find nothing is there. So the mission stays in your to do list forever and you can from then on only take on 2 new missions instead of 3, severely limiting your game progress, especially when you only realize it's a bug 10 saves later and you have no way to back up to an unbugged state except retarting the entire campaign.

Matewis: I chased 100% completion in both Batman : AA and Batman AC, simply because both were so euphorically delightful, but I heard a worrying rumour that Batman: Arkham Origins, at least the PC version, has a bugged Riddler puzzle which prevents you from obtaining 100% completion. That's the kind of thing that would really bug me.
Origins had that bug when it released where you would be stuck in a radio tower and had to reload checkpoint. (Unhacking radio towers gets you fast travel and marks your map with locations of Riddler's breakable stuff) It was fixed when I played it about a year ago.

Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, last level, you keep dying until you miraculous reach the end. Dunno if they ever fixed that...
