Hey guys!

I really hope you can help me.

I have bought Heroes of Might and Magic 3: Complete edition, (Legendary game btw)
and thought by using wineskin I could play this on my Macbook pro.
The download is a .exe file, but wineskin cannot find any executables.

The tutorial I found shows that he has a setup file, but I don't get that from GOG.com.

Please help!!! :)

Merry Christmas

Wineskin is just a useless wrapper for wine.

Heroes of Might and Magic is a two part downloader. One part is the installer base stub, while the other is the main installer data.

You need both parts in the same location for anything to happen.

As I just explained: HOMM 3 is a two part installer. It needs both parts in order to install. As for your other question, I gave up on Apple in 1999.

I'm thankful for your reply, even though I'm curious to how you are helping me? xD

No, what he is telling you is you might not have downloaded the whole installer. The installer consists of two files:

setup_heroes_of_might_and_magic_3_complete_4.0_(3.2)_(25024).exe (800 kb)
setup_heroes_of_might_and_magic_3_complete_4.0_(3.2)_(25024)-1.bin (977484 kb)

You need to make sure to download both files and have them in the same directory before you start the .exe file.

How to get them: Log in to GOG, hover over your username at the top of the page and click on 'Games' to see your games library. Search for the gamecard of HOMM3 and click on it. On the open gamecard click on 'Download offline backup installers' to see all files. Download them both. See picture.

You need to setup Wineskin properly first, download the Winery app and install some engines for Wine to use, ideally a few different ones as some games work better with different versions...

Personally id suggest to try the porting kit if you don't want to get into the details too much, its an automated installer for Wine wrappers. It will install all of the necessary libraries and tweaks, if a game is supported. A recipe/script for HoMM3 is included already, you just need all parts of the GOG installer.

That seems like a lot of steps to just get an old game running. I guess that's score against Apple for gaming sanity.

About the same as on Linux, unless using Steam Play.

Not really. Typically you just install wine, right click to open in wine or set click to open, and if it doesn't work, then you start diagnostics. Many games run with no extra rigamarole or "skins".

Its just the same when using classic Wine, right click, open with Wine...
Personally I prefer to have self enclosed wrappers, easier to make backups of working installs and being able to drag and drop them to another OS or computer is quite practical.
