So I need a little help, is there anyway I can install and run an older game from a flashdrive?

My school gives out computers and were getting back into the season of downtime.

The game i am trying to play is RCT2, I have installed in onto my personal computer, but when I even move the game files folder to the desktop, the game will no longer start because it is looking for a CD Disk. Any Ideas??

That's because there files installed into other destinations, like the systems folder and there are entries in the windows registry. So if you run the game from another PC without these files or entries the game cannot start. Even if you just move the game folder to another location on the same it still won't run because these files or entries look up the game files on the old location. It is possible to circumvent this somehow but that's usually quite a bit of work.

But the easiest solution to your problem is to keep the installer somewhere, or simply download it again, and reinstall the game on your new PC, just make sure you keep the save files. Unless of course the came synchronizes these files with the gog servers, then you just need the installer.

There is NO limit on how often you can download and install your game.
You may want to give OpenRCT2 a try. I have no idea how well it would work with a removable drive, but it's worth a shot. That aside, it provides greater functionality, better compatibility, and no disc checks ever. ;)

What is rct2? You can do what is called portabilising some games. It depends on the game in question. For instance diablo will run fine from a pen drive if you get a nocd. But, you first need a good pen drive otherwise you won't get good performance, and secondly it may be a complicated process getting dependencies and such like ready. Have a look at portable apps website, they have a fair few and can help with portabilising.

I'm not sure if the poster took a second to google for a solution but I see a few discussions on how to do this already, including youtube videos

Does this help?
