I just opened this thread in the hope to get some attention from the GOG staff responsible for the new account system and to remind them to keep their promise! Since the new account system (NAS) the sorting in the game library is NOT ACCEPTABLE! GOG removed manual sorting and GOG removed lots of other things, I get that. But removing manual sorting should also introduce a good automatic title sorting. This is still not the case (Looking at my Witcher Games, The Broken Sword Games, The Blackwell Games, The Atlantis Games ect.). Here is what GOG PROMISED us:

-- COMING SOON: Improved searching. Soon, finding desired titles will be easier thanks to the search improvements that we'll be implementing on the new My Account. Also, as part of the solution, we will be changing the way that titles from a series are ordered (i.e. Broken Sword should always show up before Broken Sword 2).

So they KNOW about the fact that they are still missing a sorting system which uses sort titles instead of real titles and still my library looks totally scrambled several weeks after the introduction of the NAS. I am soooooo glad that I now have a friends list got rid of that (great) PMs and that I can access and use all those other social media crap but all I want is to archive my collection. THAT is what I paid for and one reason I did this here on GOG and not eleswhere was because I thought they are aware of the fact that GOG users are collectors who like to archive their collection. With manual sorting the fact that GOG never did implement a simple database field with sort titles in it was not that problematic because you could work around to make your own order. Now this is absolutely necessary. So I am asking GOG WHEN will my library look good again? When will you keep your promise! You can have all the social media things back - just give me my great looking collection back. PLEASE!

I have also made an entry to the community wishlist but until now there has not been much response to it. Maybe that is just because most people don't know what a sort_title database field does: well, it is used if a normal title would lead to a bad and unlogical sort order. It is also used to keep a franchise together and it leads to a good looking library.

Example:
Atlantis: The Lost Tales, Atlantis 2: Beyond Atlantis, Atlantis 3: The New World

Without sort titles (now):
Atlantis 2: Beyond Atlantis, Atlantis 3: The New World, Atlantis: The Lost Tales

With sort titles (meaning that in background every game has assigned a logical title like "Atlantis 1", "Atlantis 2", "Atlantis 3")
Atlantis: The Lost Tales, Atlantis 2: Beyond Atlantis, Atlantis 3: The New World

It is just an internal thing and it should not be that hard to implement an additional database field, copy the game titles and changing them where it is needed and change the "order by title" to "order by sort_title". It is a mystery for me why GOG has not done this yet.

And no, this can NOT be done using the tags, GOG provided for us because
1) It is not possible to sort by tag.
2) Even if it would be you would need to assign EVERY single game with a logical tag to achieve a correct sort order because otherwise the games without a tag would all be at the beginning or the end of the collection (depending on the order).

To be fair, I have never seen or heard GOG say "we promise."

Well, it was an announcement. I would take this as a promise. They announced to change one thing BUT they would compensate the downside using correct sort order. Until now they only managed to change everything else and broke my library look completely. I thought it would be time to make a statement.

They've announced a lot of things later on turned out to be untrue.
And by now you must've noticed that the web development team isn't exactly the best.

you mean a load of howler monkies in a code room ?
except that the monkies would be less incompetent
It is easy to criticize someone else work but usually it is much harder to do that same work better.

snowkatt: howler monkies
Are those like monkeys that are also monks?
Because that sounds amazing.
I can't go anywhere else because regardless of how many fuck-ups they have, GOG is still way better than anything else out there.
I took 'soon' to mean more than a few weeks, its still in beta afterall

It's a lot of fun too!

Absolutely true and I would not say that they are incompetent. They have some bad planning and especially bad prioritizing. When you introduce something new you should make sure that AT LEAST the things that were working before will still work. The NEW things are bonus the OLD things are things the customer was used to have so it would not be so bad if some of the new things don't work correct but some of the old things not working would be - especially if they are that essential like a sort order (which never worked but we had the manual option).

I know exactly what I demand here having programmed database programs about 4,5 yrs. myself so I know that it should not be THAT hard to implement an additional database field into the existing database and then in first instance simply copy the "title" data to the new "sort_title" data. After this process you would only need to change the "order by title" to "order by sort title" wherever it is applied. It's nothing big I am demanding here. I am sure that the things they already did (order history, friend list, changelogs) were harder too implement.
Honestly, looking at this site in the last few days and attempting to "buy" one of the free games to have on my account makes me believe that I will never buy a game here. I have very little confidence in the way data is handled and in the structure of the site, which is a big shame.

Steam, Gamersgate and several others do it well. GreenManGaming is a mess as well, and Desura, well... but GOG would really benefit from having a colourful and stable website with a more sensible design and features.

Not really bashing GOG, because I joined for a reason, but I don't think they deserve my business. Maybe everything works better in Galaxy, but I don't like clients and it's not on Linux anyway.

Of course they are. I never wnated to critizize them completely - just in this case. In fact I am hoping that maybe one of the persons responsible will step down and post here that they are aware of the problems and it should be fixed until end of next month or so. This is nothing more than a (friendly) reminder for GOG.

Steam is much bigger (so this can be expected) and much more unfriendly and incompetent regarding support (my experience).

They did not say that Linix-Galaxy will never come but at the moment Galaxy is that much beta that there is no need to be sad about not being able to use it ;)

If GOG is not big enough to keep up, just have a simpler setup that just works. This is an ugly mess and I hate it.

at this point i wouldnt be surprised
