I expect the discussions on "Her Story" to... take a while.

This might not be a bad idea.
My NWN manual is the the size of "War & Peace".

Why do you say that? Because it's pretty much a visual novel?

I wanted to spark the "this is a game/this is not a game" debate. Gone Home would be a more popular entry, but that game is $20, Her Story is $6. I had to weigh one against the other.

No, but because conflicting interpretations is the main point of the game. There might be some "is it a game" debate, but I mostly expect discussions about, well, her story itself.
I'm not definitively not finishing it within a week, so I'm out. But the idea is good, so have fun with it!

misteryo: Here's what I think, informed as I am by groups on the internet.

1. You run it.
2. You pick the games.
3. You pick the duration.
4. You post the threads.
5. Expect the first 3 to suck - nobody joins, you'll get complaints, etc. But after that, if you keep posting a game symposium *love the title btw* thread, you will get joiners. And if the rules are set, clear and not up for discussion, eventually people will come to respect them. People will join the thread when they can and not bitch very much when they can't.

Cheers.

DaCostaBR: You are right.

This is what I do when my friends get caught in a loop of trying to decide things, but I don't like it. What can I say? I'm an idealist, I still believe in democracy triumphing in the end.

I'll make the recommendations schedule myself, I really hope people get an interest, so I think I might start with some games that are more popular and people have already played, and a bit more expensive than I'd like, but never above $10; then transition to slightly lesser known stuff, that is hopefully cheaper as well.

Then once we get some regulars I can start to delegate some of the responsability.

Upcoming discussion schedule:

November 1st: Beyond Good and Evil, currently free on Uplay. Thanks to Vainamoinen for the suggestion.
November 8th: Hotline Miami
November 15th: Gunpoint
November 22nd:: The Shivah
November 29th: Her Story
Looks promising.

Downloading Beyond Good and Evil now.
I don't think I want to replay Beyond Good & Evil, I remember a lot of annoying gameplay moments and camera issues, and while Gunpoint is great, not really in the mood. That said, game discussions would be interesting.
As I understand this won't be the main thread (as the main is yet to be opened?),
But you will open a game specific thread for each title as many have requested, right?
If so - will it be welcomed to post in that thread after that week is over? could e useful for those a bit late to the party.
Interesting idea; I'm not sure about replaying Beyond Good and Evil in a week's time (it's not super long, but I have other games that I'm playing), and I suspect in general that the weekly schedule you've set up may have to be relaxed a little, but we'll see how that goes, I guess.

A new thread for each game, yes.

There's no ending to each discussion, you can post in it whenever you want.

Have you seen the size of the manual for Falcon?

That's a flight sim. I can kind of see that.
I'll change the schedule to be once every two weeks now. There's been enough requests for it, and the last thing I want is for people to have to force themselves to finish the games on time, that's a recipe for resenting the game.

Of course there's a selfish reason as well. I thought I owned BGE here, turns out I don't. Got the free version on uPlay and the framerate was unplayable, now I'm reticent of buying it elsewhere afraid the same thing would happen. I did buy the HD version of BGE on PS3 years ago and barely played it, this will be the excuse to finally get the PS3 out of storage and dust it off, but I will need some time to get it.

I'll edit the new schedule into the previous posts.

Great, I'm getting my GOG BGE copy in that case. :)
As a possible future game to discuss, I'd like to suggest Oxenfree. I've just completed it (although I'll probably replay it straight away) and I'd like to discuss its plot and mechanics more in depth that what I'm gonna put in the "Games completed in 2016" thread.

I'm bringing it up now as it's 60% off here on GOG, 75% off on Steam, and also in the BTA tier of the Humble Day of the Devs 2016 Bundle (currently $4.24).
