CharlesGrey: What's the requirement for that one?
avatar
zakmckracken: Hi, CharlesGrey. The requirement is making it through "The Writer" DLC without dying. There is a good amount of luck involved because even running through the level can take a player 40-45 minutes. After about 12 hours of attempting this (over a few months), I finally gave up. :/
Ah, I liked the game but never played the DLC. Is it more difficult than the main game? As far as I remember the combat in the main game isn't so bad, once you get the hang of it. Or does the DLC have any annoying instant-death moments?
One day I will hook up my new HOTAS setup, install Freespace 2 and play it through, and do the same with IL-2. And then give I-War2 another whirl.

The Writer DLC is pretty good (I didn't find The Signal as exciting). It has some interesting, creative, and surreal moments that suitably reflect Wake's state of mind by that point in the game. Since you liked the base game, The Writer would probably be a fun, short experience that you'd enjoy.

Unfortunately, yes, there are instant-death moments, particularly if you aren't great at making your way unharmed through a tornado that appears toward the beginning of the DLC (which I'm not). The rest of the DLC is manageable with some fast footwork, and as long as you remember to keep your light pointed at the bad guys, the combat isn't too challenging.

The Alan Wake achievements page on Xbox reports that 1% of players have successfully completed the "No Punctuation" achievement, so it seems to be a tough objective for many people. One of these days, I will give it another go. :)

One day I'll properly figure out how to add mods to Skyrim and make it a survival/crafting/economy game. And play it. Forever.
Or at least a week or so until I get bored.

Well, used to. I got this started last week! Of course, I'm not quite there yet. Or... nowhere near there. So far I have Frostfall.

I went through a stretch from 2004 to 2015 when I either had no gaming PC or was vastly busy with school, work, and family. As a result I kept up with a smattering of indie games but not any big AAA titles. So my goal is get through the backlog of top-tier AAA and indie titles from that time period before I turn 40, and then go on the project I have dreamed of, which is to play through every major DOS-era release in chronological order.
One day I'll start a quick game of North & South without first spending half an hour clicking on that photographer's bottom.

And on the same day, I will probably catch Manhunter's Phil Cook, identify the hooded figure at the end of Undying, and escape XIII's yacht.

Maybe I'll just start another playthrough of Alan Wake some day, or at least of the add-on, since I never finished that one.

Dark Souls II had a similar crazy "don't die" achievement, except it was for the entire game. Struck me as a little over the top, considering frequent death is arguably a core element of the series. And no, I didn't even attempt that challenge. Oh well, I'm sure some people can appreciate such achievements/challenges.
One day I will finish what I star

amund: One day I'll play a point and click adventure without a walkthrough.
avatar
Matewis: That's a really tall order :P Closest I've gotten is Fate of Atlantis where I managed to get close to the end before getting hopelessly stuck in some sort of gigantic maze.
Speaking of Point and Clicks and mazes...I remember vividly the maze in Gabriel Knight 2: The Beast within...and, yeah - I had to lookup a walkthrough to get through that maze (the rest of the game was doable without, though...).
one day i'll play the infinity engine games in the order they were made and finish them
or maybe i'll play all the dnd based games that i have here on gog in ascending order of the editions (that would be all of the above and neverwinter nights 1+2)

and one day i'll have the patience to play get into europa universalis 4 or crusader kings 2 - there is just so much information o.O

edit: oh and one day i'll finally finish arcanum - i started it so many times and only made it once past the island with the prisoners... maybe i'll throw in a run with a gunner too, always wanted to try it and always ended up playing a mage..

One day i'll stop caring about new game releases and go back to replaying my favourite older games exclusively(*).

* minor exceptions apply :P
