timppu: Could be that they don't want to mention their direct competitor on the main page too loudly, as if advertising it. They have "hidden" the mention of the competing service to the instructions. If these hapless people saw Steam mentioned on the main page, it might even give them the wrong idea that GOG is selling/delivering Steam keys.
I think you pointed out well why they didn't mention Steam.

Probably their wording wasn't too inspired, but now they change it to: "LIMBO now available on GOG Connect - claim your copy" so I think everything is fine now.

dwgog: Re: Bigs
Thanks for the reply. Which part, though? The giving a free key, or GOG giving it away for free, just for linking your Steam to your GOG?
It's not a gift - it's a marketing strategy, mainly trying to lure people who have Steam games over to GOG. Once people have made an account they are more likely to also continue to buy here, in stead of just Steam. The cost for that, and the people that use this and are already GOG users, is written off.

Prolence: ...honestly I'm not sure what there is to fix? ...
You are not sure how to fix this? I honestly cannot believe it. Just be more specific.

Instead of: Limbo now available on GOG Connect for free
say: Limbo can now be registered with GOG Connect for free
or: Limbo now available on GOG Connect

Well it already stated exactly how it was, it didn't need to be fixed in the sense when there wasn't anything wrong with how they stated it. If people don't bother reading stuff through or if it's too much for some to click the banner to further clarify the issue at hand, then in my opinion it's on the reader. They did clarify it now but it doesn't mean it is 'fixed' as it states the exact same thing now as it did before. If it had a straight up lie on the banner, then I would agree that it needed fixing, but being unfamiliar with something doesn't mean it means something else than it actually does.

If some people does see an issue with this, it doesn't mean that I think them being wrong, just that in my opinion the issue has been made out to be a lot worse than it actually is. It's perfectly fine to disagree with me, but personally I don't see an issue.

Don't get me wrong, I already stated that it could have been clearer, but there wasn't anything really wrong about it other than people needing to pay a bit more attention. I don't mean to come out as offencive so my apologies if this comes out that way, I just can't see how else I could put my thoughts any clearer than I already have. Also I don't mean to cause any drama in here, so we'll just agree to disagree and continue with our forum lives.

I know, they haven't said something completely wrong, but they were on the verge. It was clickbait and could have been misunderstood. I just generally don't like such behavior and the solution is always to be more specific. It would have been simple for them to be more specific and avoid the confusion.

About it being clearer I do agree with you. At least they changed it so it should be a bit clearer at the moment, especially to people that don't know about GOG Connect.
Thank you for keeping the conversation civil, I highly appreciate it.
If people actually read what it said there would be no need for this whining. Its really sad this is even a topic still.

Indeed. It sounds pretty clear to me, now. It's been changed.

It was: "Get LIMBO for free with GOG Connect - Claim your copy now"

Now, it's: "LIMBO now available on GOG Connect - claim your copy."

Much more clear. I don't see the word 'free' anywhere.

It saddens me that the world is changing in a myriad of subtle ways in order to accommodate people whose reading comprehension never advanced past the 3rd grade level. This is just one such example. Not a big deal or anything. Just kind of ... disheartening.

The word free should of never been in there since in theory you really aren't getting anything for 'free'. You must own the game somewhere else (whether paid for it or otherwise), all GoG is doing is providing a GoG copy to something you already had before. The bigger criticism is how they don't fully market Connect on their site in the same way they do Galaxy which then leads to questions like what we have seen.

I might be reading this incorrectly (funny, that). Me, darth, or GOG (or other)? For myself, I didn't know Connect at all and basically took it to mean:

"Get LIMBO for free with GOG Connect - Claim your copy now"
Get what? LIMBO
For how much? for free
How? With GOG Connect - Claim your copy now

Read as: Set up a GOG Connect account and receive LIMBO for free. So that's my defense. Originally the banner said nothing about needing to own it already on some other service. To assume someone who doesn't use it knows the ins and outs assumes a bit too much, as I guess they saw by changing the banner.

Can't speak for darth. As for GOG, well, that's business. Plus they are Polish speaking (tough language!) rather than native English if I understand correctly, and I don't assume malice in this, just business...

Bit redundant, I suppose. :)

Edit: added quotes

OP isn't too far wrong though in a way. GOG puts up GOG Connect to trying and poach customers from Steam and hope to convert some or at least get some of their business, but in all the time ive been a regular member of the forums and customer (my library is quite large although not to extent of some longer term members ), there has been little to nothing offerred to the loyal ones who have been here for eons and buy mostly if not all gog games only . Its one thing to grow your customer base, but there is also doing small things for existing customers -- every company needs to look at that.

Niggles:
The biggest flaw, IMO, is that in order to find out about this "connect" feature one must come to the GOG site in the first place (and therefore be already at least interested in the GOG) while I could not see any advertizing on the "store.steampowered.com" site.

The only thing this feature does is promoting Steam service amongst GOG users, not the other way around.
