So I installed KOTOR 1 but for some reason after the cinematic of escaping the Endire Spire and landing on Taris the game crashes?

Anyway to fix this?
Try disabling movies in the swconfig file. While great both Kotor games were loaded with bugs.

Is it the same with the Steam version which has been longer on Steam?
Even the boxed editions were buggy. But yea it seems to be a common issue on the steam ones too.

Also where is the swconfig file?

Example:

GOG.com>Star Wars KOTOR 1> etc.

I only own the steam version myself. It -should- be in the main installation folder.

Done it nvm.

Its not fair. I understand most of the cinematics are just showing the characters getting to where they need to go, but still I know at least 3 cinematics that are crucial.

Is there no patch fix from Moddb or something?

There might be, but most I know of off hand are ones for Kotor 2, including a restoration patch which adds removed content and whatnot.

I have kotor 1 and 2 on steam and have the crashing after movies problem described on my Intel HD 3000 laptop and none of the suggested fixes worked for me. I believe that might be because the Intel HD 3000 is just bad though so the OP should still try them.

Have you guys tried to play with the compatibility options a bit ? I know I had an issue with crashes, so I changed that and it pretty much fixed it. (only had crashes issues with more modern Windows versions, not back then ; own the box version)

Mostly this. I also had to change both the game resolution and my desktop resolution (stupid as this sounds, it always crashed when I launched it from my monitor's native resolution), but it mostly works. Both KOTORs crash during gameplay for me, though, so when you do get it running to your satisfaction, try to get in the habit of saving right before you go anywhere that will trigger a loading screen. CTD isn't an intolerable bug for me, so I don't mind, but I do crash probably every fifth** time I change areas (including starting and ending cutscenes). Thankfully, the way KOTOR was designed, that's not too terribly often.

**it would have been much less, but the cantina on Onderon hates me and crashes more than half the time, greatly increasing the overall average. Most of the other planets only crashed once or twice the whole time I was there.

Yeah, The Sith Lords Restored Content Mod (TSLRCM) is pretty much a must for playing KOTOR 2, now that's it's pretty much complete.
