for iMac high sierra OS:

downloaded off steam and it won't launch. ERROR MESSAGE:

WINESKIN
An error occurred while starting the X11 server: "Failed to activate core devices."

Click Quit to quit X11. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple.
Have you asked over at Steam?

actually it wasn't steam. they only had it for windows. But not sure why it won't open.

ERROR! cannot write to Info.plist, there are permission problems, or you are on a read-only volume.

This cannot run from within a read-only dmg file.

Then where did you get it? Looks like GOG only has it for Windows as well, unless I missed something.
Wow, WTF?

1. If you bought it from Steam why would you ask for technical support here?
2. If you didn't buy it from Steam, why did you say you did?
3. How do you expect anyone to help if you don't provide any real info that doesn't turn out to be a poorly thought out lie?

Whole thing is fishy. Guessing OP pirated it, can't see any other reason for making things up.

Oh, well I'm an idiot too so I don't think we can draw any conclusions.
i got it from agdinteractive

and decided to ask if anyone knew of those error message before or had a workaround for wineskin issues that might be causing the game not to launch properly on a mac.

So you mean the unofficial remakes then, this one?

http://www.agdinteractive.com/games/kq1/download/download.html

I know nothing about Macs besides that they suck, but do you meet the system requirements for the game? Is the game supported at all on "High Sierra" or whatever that is? Have you contacted the AGD authors, is there some AGD forum where you could ask this, etc. etc. etc. jne.?

EDIT: The forums are here, try also asking there:

- 512 MB RAM

agdinteractive seem to only offer fan made king's quest games.

So you probably should ask in their forums.

*facepalm*

Yeah, so you have the free remake. Quite why you decided to start by claiming you got it from Steam I have no idea. Anyway, the remake has little to do with either of the Sierra version from a technical point of view so...
