I don't know if anyone has heard but Keith Emerson of Emerson Lake & Palmer has died. Reports say it could of been a suicide. :(

Death

Suicide

So so sad. :(
No ELP fans here? Shame.
I don't know who he is,sorry.

The guy on keyboards Huge inspiration to many and a rock star of legendary proportions.
OMG

Will miss him. What a virtuoso!

The 2nd album I ever bought was Tarkus (first was Cosmo's Factory). I just loved it. Emerson's keyboarding just killed. Palmer's drums - wow could that dude drum! Lake's guitar and vocals were excellent (he was great too in King Crimson).

I really love ELP. Saw them in concert in 1972 at the Long Beach Arena. What a fantastic show! And the first quadraphonic concert I'd been to.

To this day (including just yesterday) I play their songs. They'll always be a favorite of mine - like they're in my DNA or something.

R.I.P. Keith Emerson
Thanks for the heads up, I loved ELP.

TOCCATA was one of their finest compositions :

I enjoyed their music when I grew up and later I learned that they were great musicians.
It's sad news. May he rest in peace.

Iv been listening to them obsessively for years after a record vendor gave him their entire back catalogue for free. One of my regrets is not listening to them sooner.
Even I don't recognize the name, even though I consider myself as a fan of progressive rock (if that is what bands like Pink Floyd, Supertramp and Jethro Tull played).

Then again, I probably can't even name all the Pink Floyd or Supertramp band members, so maybe it doesn't say much if I don't recognize one name. Maybe it is bit like with PC games: I am only interested in the gaming content, not extras or who were the members in the development team who made the game I love.

Starcraft? Icewind Dale? No idea who were the persons who made them.

Not to be cheeky or anything (seriously) but not knowing members of prog is one thing, especially when they had as much members as Jethro Tull and Yes. But Emerson Lake & Palmer?! Keith Emerson is probably the most influential musician in the genre. His work with The Nice and ELP is so influential to prog rock.

Sounds like videogame boss music.
I love prog, but ELP was not among my immediate favourites, even though I have some of their albums.
Still, sad to see yet another musician from rock music's Golden Age (1965-1975) leave us.
At least Emerson made the front page in some Norwegian online papers, unlike Chris Squire of Yes.

Maybe my interest to the genre was restricted only to so few bands that I happened to bump into, rather than researching the genre as a whole on my own.

As a matter of fact, it was the same friend of mine who introduced me to e.g. those three bands, at different times... The funny thing is that my big brother used to have e.g. Pink Floyd albums already when I was a tiny kid, I just never got to listen to them (and maybe I wouldn't have had patience to listen to them anyway).

I just remember how odd the Animals album LP cover looked to a kid, a factory with a flying pig? Much much later in my life I actually got to really listen to the tracks in it, and ended up loving it.
