Sakura Season begins on GOG.com with games up to 75% off!

Welcome to Japan! It's a quite enchanting, slightly bizarre, and totally fascinating place - plus it's absolutely beautiful during the cherry blossom season! We've found a pretty convenient way to get spirited away there and take you with us: through the magic of videogames. Everything in this Kawaii Sale has been touched or inspired by those unique Japanese sensibilities we've grown to love and is up to 75% off.

It's not just the extravagant haircuts, expressive eyes, or colorful creatures - there's something timeless about these games that always makes us feel young at heart.
Grandia II Anniversary Edition is a prime example of an archetypical jRPG whose charms never fade. When Gaming Nexus reviewed the game, they concluded that "this updated re-release is a testament to how much fun a well-crafted turn-based role-playing game can be."

Less epic, but definitely not less memorable, Hatoful Boyfriend made IGN admit that "it has a strange premise and though it embraces that weirdness fully, it is able to surpass the label of silly dating sim by presenting interesting themes and characters through strong writing".

Are you a fan of narrative-driven, turn-based fantasy? Then you'll love The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky! RPGFan described it as "a slow-paced but charismatic RPG with an incredibly well-crafted world and characters".

As always, there's more – including up to 75% off Corpse Party, Way of the Samurai 4, and Xanadu Next. Plus, stay tuned for new games and deals this Friday!

The Kawaii Sale will last until February 27, 5PM UTC.

dtgreene: Is that *really* an issue? Is there a reason you have trouble with that particular price point?

By the way, for anyone who likes classic Wizardry games (1-5, excluding 4 (of course)), I highly recommend Elminage Gothic.

Sarang: I grew up being raised as a Christian so that number STILL makes me uncomfortable.
But the number of the beast is 666 (or 616), not 6,66. There's nothing on GOG for 666 USD yet.
Alternatively, you can change the currency when something like this happens.

Nicole28: It seems that GOG knows what "Kawaii" means! Does this indicate that we can hope for more anime/manga specific content like visual novels and such? :D
It would be great news if GOG finally changed their mind.

Sarang: Will definitely be biting on the Ys titles though I wish Nihon Falcom would've kept it 2D. I would've even donated to KS's for all the aforementioned Ys games like Napishtim, Felgana and others to cover the development costs of having them hand-drawn.
I would buy the Heroes games but having dub only is a dealbreaker for me.

Oh and regarding the previous sale to GOG staff, could you please not have titles number up $6.66? I would've bought "Shadowrun: Hong Kong Extended" if it was $6.65 or $6.67 instead.

p.s. I find myself shopping GOG for sales more and more with the MEDIOCRITY of PSN and XBL sales, especially on PSN's flash sales of late. Ugh. Those two services should take a hint from you. Oh and if I find out a game is on PC 99% of the time I'll buy it there as I don't want to deal with any BC shafting down the road.
There's so little voice acting in Trails in the Sky that I doubt you'll mind all that much - I think someone's modded what Japanese voice there was into this version of the game, but I haven't bothered doing that.

Incidentally, in the Textus Receptus, the Number of the Beast is written as "χξϛ", which literally means "600 60 6" (the Book of Revelation predates the invention of the Hindu–Arabic numeral system). Needless to say, that doesn't really resemble the aforementioned price.

Honestly though, I can't understand for the life of me though why games aren't taken as seriously when it comes to movies when it comes to having original voices. It's like games aren't being taken as seriously as an artform by the people who produce and publish them.

For some reason licensing the voices for games seems to be much harder that for movies. I don't know if it's a problem with the licensing system itself or the developers are just more stubborn (I know that some jap. devs are very paranoid about reverse-importing), but somrtimes and especially for japanese games publishers for the western version just don't get the rights to use the original voice.

As for Trail in the Sky, like it's already been stated above, the PC version barly have any voices anyway. Only during some special actions in combat, the dialouges aren't voiced.

And as far as I know (if I'm wrong please somebody correct me) the jap. version of the game wasn't voiced either and that was only added at the Evolution Ramasters of the games (PSVita exclusive) which for some reaseon have never been released outside of japan.

ShadowAngel.207: [...] virgin pedophiles [...]
No need to cast aspersions -- many pedophiles enjoy very fulfilling sex lives (as do their cellmates later on).
Nothing for me in this promo

Some of that info is interesting and sad. I have a LOT more respect for Japanese VA's than English one's(Mel Blanc and the founders are the exception), primarily because the Japanese one's are the cream of the crop. Given how Anime and video games are the Hollywood of their country there's a reason why I only call the Japanese VA's A-listers of their industry.
We see this reflected in the fact there are big time FANS of these people in Japan seeking out their autographs RABIDLY. The voices on "Battle Fantasia" has the voice of Shinobu from "Love Hina" and I know I've heard the voice of the end boss.
Meanwhile there are only a handful of well-known, LIVING American VA's and there are a smattering of fans who seek their autographs comparatively.

p.s. The most criminally ignored people in the Japanese gaming industry are the storywriters like Junko Kawano. Outside of Final Fantasy, let me make a game with the writers of Lunacy, Shadow Hearts and Shadow Of Memories. Sadly, the guy who was behind "Illbleed is dead. Hironobu Sakaguchi is the EXCEPTION to this ruleand that's likely because he was head of the Final Fantasy projects as well.

I read that a long time ago... The surprising thing here is that the day Ys stops to be an Xseed published game outside Japan, it gets dual audio + French text translation.

I guess NISA has more firepower, but I like how they push dual audio in their releases.
I own most of these games already, and I have no interest in the Boyfriend games, but it would be great to see Grandia and Grandia III added to the GoG lineup as the second game already is here, perhaps someday soon.
Is the link to the page broken for anyone else? Just loads homepage for me.

Edit: Never mind that, already working.

Cecco: I'd rather play western games in Japanese that these expensive titles without even the Japanese language.

phaolo: It would be great to be able to switch language in-game on the fly.
For example, in anime I usually prefer the original dub, but sometimes I fed up and switch to english (briefly, if it isn't great).
It would be great to have as many options to meet any gamer need. Sadly most of the times you don't even get furigana. My favourite in that regard is Mugen no sunadokei (Phantom Hourglass) for NDS, where you had the furigana showing when touching the kanji. I was a beginner and it made me very happy. The Japanese attitude of not selling the original language make my scarce interest for these titles drop to zero.
