That is definitely true. The game has more late game weapons than early game ones. A couple more lower tier weapons wouldn't have hurt.

The one weapon I absolutely love in both games is the Disruptor Rifle. By far the best shooting weapon I've seen in the Star Wars universe. Disintegrating fools never gets old.

I liked Outcast more, but simply because I had come a long way with Kyle Katarn and loved to see his story develop further. While in Jedi Academy you start from scratch.

Granted, JA had the (even) better lightsaber combat. But JO, even if I played it mostly with the saber (from first person!), had this rugged mercenary style when you switch to guns. Like Indy shooting that guy. In JA using guns felt... wrong.

Ah yes. I remember MP servers that exclusively used those. Fun times.
I remember disliking Academy when it came out for some reason. Less serious tone maybe? I honestly don't remember. I'm also the weirdo who prefers the FPS sections in Knight and Outcast.
Dark forces, Jedi knight were great. Can’t remember if I played the other two. I would recommend getting Fallen Order, it’s a great action game with plenty of exploration and light saver action. Story is ok, most of the characters are ok if typical Disney.
I'd kind of like to see a Darth Souls game.
Jedi Academy is the better of the two. Outcast has some absurd difficulty spikes and annoying puzzles that drag the pace down to a crawl. Academy is faster and more fun while maintaining the authentic Star Wars feel.

Go with Jedi Academy.
I know OP did not mention it, but nobody's talking about the elephant in the room, and IMHO the best Star Wars game(s) ever made: Knights of the Old Republic (+II)...

Fallen Order did not scratch that itch enough? :P

I preferred Academy.

The style of hopping from environment to environment kept things fresh, and each level had some gimmick that kept things interesting.

The story was Saturday morning cartoon Star Wars stuff but that was kind of the point.

The focus was on variety of design and as everyone already mentioned, the lightsaber combat.

That elephant is in a different room altogether. The question isn't about SW games in general, but about comparing the two very close games from the same genre and series.

That's like someone asking whether we prefer Reign of Chaos or Frozen Throne and someone saying "what about the elephant in the room, the best fantasy game ever made: Witcher 3?"

I never played KOTOR I+II, but by what I've seen it looks really good.
It may be accepted in this discussion as an honourable mention, right? :D

Well, yes. But OP apparently has never been in that room, which is why I brought it up :P.

At least I have not left the Star Wars house, give me some credit.

morolf: Jedi Academy has an absolutely forgettable story even by the low standards of Star Wars games
I also had a bone to pick.

idbeholdME: I'm gonna say Outcast, mostly because it is the one in which you can enable lightsaber dismemberment. And also because Kyle was a good character which got sidelined in Academy.
avatar
morolf: ...and if the guns weren't so inaccurate.
avatar
idbeholdME: That might be more of an operator issue. You know that the E-11 also has an accurate primary fire right? You don't just have to spray everything with the secondary. Just saying that I had no trouble hitting things in any of the games.
You can enable the dismemberment by putting +set g_sabermorerealistic 2 +helpusobi 1 in the shortcut launch option. For some reason it's been blocked doing it normally in game.

As for JK2 if people find it too slow or too hard there's plenty of console commands to make the game a bit easier.
Something like +helpusobi 1 and "give weapon_blaster" and setforcepull 1-3 or setforcepush to start off with so it isn't too easy.

KOTOR games aren't bad, but imo their gameplay is nothing special, really terrible combat with far too many trash mobs.
It's true that they capture the Star Wars feeling pretty well, especially the first game (personally I found the second game more interesting, but of course that one is notoriously unfinished). Whether that's enough to compensate for the weak gameplay depends on how much one likes Star Wars.

Or whether they agree with you about weak gameplay, which you should not assume.
