Robocop (the original)

Watching it made me realize just how far the movie business has slid down the mountain. An 80s hyper violent action flick that offers better social commentary than most modern movies or documentaries. The Try Hard brigade has effectively taken the field.

I watched The Second Best Marigold Hotel last night. It wasn't exceptional or anything, and I didn't expect it to be either, but it was a very pleasant movie nonetheless. About as enjoyable as the first one.

neurasthenya: Sir Ben Kingsley, only thing that motivated me to watch the movie in the first place. Sadly his participation is meh aswell. Which I'm pretty sure it's a crime against film making.
Clearly, you have yet to see him in the masterpiece that is Bloodrayne. ;)

Seriously, with the rare exception here and there most of his work these days just isn't very good.

Uwe Boll, can't expect much. >_>

But yeah, nowadays Sir Ben is quite "meh". Last time I've truly enjoyed his acting was in Lucky Number Slevin.

Gede: District 9

It was different. I liked the parts where it tried to innovate. However, the plot did not escape the clichés, turned into an action movie very quickly and left me with many questions.

neurasthenya: Yeah, the consensus is that the action movie cliche detracts from everything, but I still like this movie a lot.
But what sort of questions do you have?
Let me see if I recall some... Was that buried ship the missing part that kept the ship from leaving? Because, from what I perceived, it did not land beneath the mothership (also the District 9 camp did not appear be be just below the "landing" site). And how come it took one guy so long to come up with a solution to "fix" the ship? Why did the aliens not work together. It would seem easier when they were up there and were not "dominated" by the humans. Also, what was that cannister? Why woud a mutagen be required to run the ship?

I don't remember much of the movie (other than that I really, really didn't like it), but my biggest question was "why in the fuck isn't the actual alien spaceship full of scientists working on it 24/7 and soldiers to protect them?" Are you really telling me we just got bored of the alien technology, and don't even care if Al Kaida sets up a base there or the Warp reactor goes critical and blows up half the continent?

Also- Alien Nation did it all better.

Tauto: "You played it for her, you can play it for me," and "If she can stand it, I can! Play it!"

For the umteenth time.
What movie?

Hickory: "Oh, I can't remember it, Miss Ilsa. I'm a little rusty on it."
[Casablanca]
"I beg of you, monsieur, watch yourself. Be on guard. This place is full of vultures. Vultures everywhere. Everywhere!"

- "Sweetnessheart, what watch?"
- "Ten watch"
- "Such much?"
- "You will get along beautifully in America"

Verdict: If you haven't seen it yet, I mean, seriously.
Fragment 53 (2015)

This is why I avoid documentaries. The well-made ones are about shit I don't care about, and the ones I find thematically interesting are made by retards who 1) think a 12 minute intro that has nothing to do with the topic is acceptable in a 70 minute feature, 2) cannot hold a fucking camera straight and 3) just discovered their camera has a zoom function for the first time. 4/10.

Well let's see (mind you, this is just me remembering the movie and using lots of contrivances, not in any consulted from any source):

1) Apparently yes, that was sort of a "safe-boat-also-command" of the mothership, as for the exact locations, well movies, drama and all that jazz? :p
Or maybe they moved on to a safer place, so no one could find easily find it. And the District is a slum, slums are messy places;

2) Taking a wild guess (oh really? :p) I recall something said among the lines of "hierarchy" like insects, so maaaaaybe the one that fixed the ship perhaps could be the only engineer, mechanic or pilot. And could it be that too many aliens working on it, would have attracted too much attention. It's contrived, but I like that.
Also, something was said about their appearance being as of "lost" from the main "colony" (the words used are lost on me), so maybe without proper guidance of sorts, it took that really long to fix it. Which would also could be used to explain their inability to "rise against";

3) Yes, apparently it was some sort of mutagen that worked like a "DNA fuel" (saying that because of the Vikus mutation, but wouldn't explain why they didn't mess up with their own blood/DNA, so I'm using contrivance again) with for ship. Remember that the guns and the "exoskeleton robotic thing" required alien DNA to function, so I'm going with that.
I've just watched X-Men: Apucalypse and it was really entertaining. Very bombastic, lots of special effects and dialogue about doom, but if you like other X-Men movies you're gonna like this one as well. It wasn't quite as good as X-Men: Days of Future Pasta, but it was very close.

Since this is set at the beginning of the X-Men story, all of the mutants are very young, roughly 20 years younger than in the first X-Men movies. This makes it possible to include lots of references to the other movies as well as the comics, which is a nice touch. The movie isn't all special effects, action and drama, it has a lot of humor as well, mostly courtesy of the super fast mutant Quicksilver.

There will probably be more X-Men movies (a third Wolverine movie is coming in 2017), since there are characters in this movie whose names I recognise from the 1992 cartoon series, but who don't get much screen time or even get to show off their powers.

Just watched Transformers: Age of Extinction.

I will spare you the details and just say as an actual fan of the first movie from a perspective of just watching Optimus kick the sh!t out of stuff, this version was horrible. I dont need story and the more CGI the better when i am watching these kinds of movies, but this just stunk the joint up. Save your time.

I was talking with a friend yesterday, and he told me something along the same lines as you.
I just watched The Revenant.

This movie is way longer than it should be for a simple story about revenge and survival. The cinematography and scenery shots of the American wilderness were very good, but ultimately felt like filler and detracted from the story. I don't see how DiCaprio got an Academy Award for this movie when all he did was grunt through the entire movie (must've been that beard). I liked how this movie showed how brutal that time period was, but after so many over-the-top attacks to DiCaprio's character it became completely unbelievable that he could survive that much punishment. Overall, a drug out boring movie with a simple plot that gets way more praise from critics than it deserves.

Verdict: 4/10
I've just watched "Breaking Bad"

I'm not too found of series. Sometimes they stretch too much and fillers usually do my head in. But after the series finished I went and saw that was only 5 seasons and went to kill some curiosity.

Oh dear, what a great idea that was.

I've loved it to bits, the acting was top notch, the writing of the characters in particular stood out the most to me. There's so much nuance that, oh gosh, just wonderful.

If you like "gray" characters, moral dilemmas, satisfying character arcs then go watch it.

Best series I have ever watched. Totally recommend it.
Sunshine (2007). Didn't liked it :(
A couple of days ago "I've just watched Battle Royal".

I was somewhat disappointed. A lot of that could be because the hype was more than the movie could live up to but I think more of it was the fact that the filmmakers were trying to hard to push a premise that was just too full of holes.

Of course 'The Hunger Games' jumps to mind for comparison and while those movies aren't great, they put enough into the details to at least make it somewhat feasible under the exact right circumstances. Battle Royal just has too much that doesn't make sense and doesn't add up in the end with no hint of an explanation for any of it.
