GameMaster_83: I heard in the grapevine that GOG is being discriminated against because of the adult nature of their games, is this true?

Many are wishing for the rest of KaguraGames library to come to GOG but the powers that be refuse it (games are missing their DLC for instance because of this).

Clarification on the subject is most appreciated.
A clarification would be appreciated indeed, because I don't follow this at all.You make it seem like a porn games developer is the one doing the discriminating by not releasing DLCs here. Or GOG is doing the discriminating against them? So GOG is being discriminated against... by itself... because of adult games... by not releasing more adult games... +++ Divide By Cucumber Error. Please Reinstall Universe And Reboot +++
I've noticed that Gog has dialed back on the porn games significantly. I remember one of the blues saying that changes were coming to the store to accommodate adult games but nothing ever happened - could've just fallen through or Gog being as inefficient as ever.

The biggest issue is that Visa and MasterCard seem to have issues with porn. They essentially have an oligopoly and are able to dictate terms with a concerning amount of influence. They've targeted various adult entertainment outlets and refuse payment processor service for them resulting in them shutting down or removing content (eg R18 and Pixiv). Puritanism is on the rise on both the left and right on the political spectrum and it's unfortunate.

So far Steam and Gog seem to have escaped direct scrutiny from these companies but who knows how long that will last. Visa and MasterCard really need to be reigned in.

CymTyr: This is a subjective issue. You have three sets of people: Those who want GOG to continue with the curation they had before they started adding AO games, those who don't care, and those who buy every piece of soft porn they can get their hands on.

It's obvious that GOG sees value in selling these types of games, because people who have been around literally since the beginning have raised objections, and basically been told to pound sand.

Whether publishers will discriminate against them because of the nature of the games they choose to sell, this is the first I've heard of it. I didn't think any of them cared, but I do, however, think it will be used as an excuse to not sell products here.

paladin181: It would be a bullshit excuse, since virtually all those games are on Steam, butthey also sell the porns.
Yeah that was my point, more or less, the whole argument is bullshit on all sides.
That's definitely not the case. Steam has way more X rated games and it's basically the default for PC gaming.

dnovraD: (Also, there's probably some legal concerns due to the fact that GOG's filtering consists all of a softly voiced, "Are you sure", instead of anything legally culpable.)
If "legal concern" there are/was then those concern would be the same for all PEGI18 or M rated games sold on Gog including Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3. (Heck I live in a country where you can purchase / watch porn at 16 but theoretically need to be 18 to purchase / play Doom 2016)

Subject: It appears we are having a issue with Adult gaming on GOG

personally i feel it is/was more a matter of presentation. It was too much out in the open. General places.... A general code of morality applies. So decent clothing, decent language and decent activities are what is wished for

Decent clothing ... decent language ... this is not a kid store. No, we simply don't have any problem and we never had. Some have a problem seeing these games (unable to ignore what they dislike) and wish to hide them which they can't easily right now because apparently it is a very complicated thing to add a custom fiter to the library. That's the only "problem" we have.

Not the only problem.. We also have users who hate these kinds of games making up massive lies about the content of them to make em sound like they have illegal type of smut game stuff to em

Though the only problems I see for these games is the selective''unrated dlc/patch'' Allowing or not status Gog has where some they allow it some they don't

While early on the only real problem was the ''output'' on how many they released pun intended but they blew thier load in pretty much one go with the smut games

There was this one game that was openly discussed, Ranch i believe, where the protagonist did engage in Rape. I found that personally a bit much but i'm also open to other points that involve pointing out that murder is the nr 1. engagement in gaming, or sometimes it seems to be

Game is called Rance and as with all the other games it's simply a fictional story. I will never unnderstand how anything that's fiction and is not hurting anyone could be too much for any adult - no matter what. If the game would be illegal it would not be here, simple as that.

And that's my final word about this completely ridiculous topic.

Humans are quite environment dependant, they are also quite protective about their personal environments, because they are dependent on this
