teceem: Too bad that we can't see people's age here on the forum. It would help to see some more perspective in people's posts. (in general, not always) ;-)
Yeah... when a user outed herself as a 65+ yo granny I was like "how amazing". Sadly she's not a regular, just asking for game specific help once in a while.

On the other hand, it's better when we don't judge each other on prejudices and people are free to reveal as much (or little) as they feel comfortable with. That's really the way it should be. It's the community's job to create a friendly atmosphere where people open up.

(Maybe that's GOG's secret plan in not talking to us properly - create a "comrades in suffering" style community...)

Of course... I had 'optional' in mind when I mentioned the idea. ;-)

That would be nice, but I think they're a bit too young atm (one is 4 years, the other 2 months).

Thanks for the advice about PoE. I started it a couple of years ago but got distracted and never finished it. If I try it again, I'll make sure I get the expansions :-)

toxicTom: Then you've played not that many games :-)

No worries... I guess I'm just old.
I don't think it's about age, I do remember Ataris and IBM pcs. But I think that, for me, many factors contribute to Fallout 3 having such an awful main quest. It's illogical (within the reasoning of Fallout), it's boring, and it takes you far away from locations that are actually interesting and worth seeing. People complain about the subway tunnels but I liked those. The big boat was a nightmare to navigate, though.

New Vegas improved on practically everything.
The gamefaq's database lets you sort games by length (among other options), platform and genre, if you want to see the list of all games of a particular genre sorted by length: https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/games

Themken: I was too slow but that is the go to site for this.
The disadvantage of howlongtobeat is, it's very slow to load.

I guess I should give New Vegas a go. When I loaded FO3, after persevering through the intro, as soon as I made it out into the terrain I lost interest. Really, a giant fly is attacking me? And I have to shoot at it? Next …

For some reason... 80.00+ is the maximum they list.

Yes, I see that too. For RPGs, there are hundreds of games at the top with '80+'. It looks like you can rank games by length on HowLongToBeat as well (under Search Options), but not filter them by genre.

Apparently the longest PC game by 'Main + Extra' (that has a reasonable amount of data) is Kerbal Space Program at 181 hours. Longest RPG looks like Record of Agarest War at 128 hours (never heard of that one), with Witcher 3 GOTY close behind.

Kerbal: Main+Extras (Leisure) 390h 47m ... that's probably how long it would take me ;-)

New Vegas is much more alike Fallout 1 and 2 but in a 3d environment. You have constant throwbacks to factions and events of the first two games, and you also have many alternative ways to solve a lot of quests. Make sure to apply some fixes, though, and the jsawyer patch, which was made to replicate mechanics of the first two games.

Good advice, thank you. (I would generally read the notes in any particular sub-forum for a specific game before embarking on a play-through, but it is nice to have a heads-up. :)
