EDIT: I found it (a text file I checked gave me a clue). Leaving it here for others. In the game directory (not the DosBox sub-directory) are configuration files. Also, there is a standard DosBox shortcut to run the game in that folder. By dropping in my preferred DosBox version as a separate folder with a different name, I was then able to make a copy of the shortcut and alter it to point to that directory and its exe instead of the original. Then just run the game with that shortcut. Or, now that I know where the config settings are, I can mess around with them if I need to change them.

Original Post below:
I installed an old game (Realms of Arkania) and would prefer to use a DosBox version with save states for easier character creation. However, the installation doesn't seem to include a standard DosBox configuration file, and instead has a Gog executable fulfilling that role.

So...how can I figure out what configuration settings are being used? Alternatively (although I doubt this is possible) is there any way to point the configurator app at a different version of DosBox and hope it sends it the right settings?

Keep in mind, many of the GOG Dosbox configs are kind of worthless for actual modern Dosbox versions for two reasons:
1) Wrong encoding. GOG for some reason decided that Codepage 437 was the format of choice instead of UTF-8.

2. Many options are not exposed in their configs or they chose odd settings which either don't help performance or do nothing.
