Hello.

I don't really check the community tab and I don't write often. I am here on gog for the "good old games"

So is it me or gog is not gog anymore. I mean yes new games, I am ok with that, gog is my favorite platform, not that I play new games but having an option is not bad.

Now why you have to abandon the old fanbase which came here for the older games. I see on wishlist so many great games, and gog is doing nothing. The first game that I remember seeing here that was new and blew me away was Withcer 3. I said why?!?!?! I wasn't mad, I just said, new games here huh? cool.

Now I only see new games. New releases yeah ok who cares? I don't want to disrespect people that are here for the new games. Ok you like new games and this is not bad... bbbbbbbbut! this site used to be a place for people who liked old to ancient games. You can hate old games all you want, its perfectly fine, you don't see what we see...

So is there anyone still here you still waits for gog to release some old gems?

EDIT: I see. I don't remember forums being so toxic. I mean I had so say all this shit " its ok to like new game" and blablalbabal only so I can say that I want old games back, and now I have braindead people post braindead comments.
Now I am waiting for other cancerous people to come and be offended about real braindead people.

Nope. No one. Just you.
Yep, just us fascist AAA game players.

Yesterday we found someone trying to sneak in and play the original Baldur's Gate.
Tonight we're going to cut out his tongue and then burn him at the stake.

I didn't realise we have to choose one and hate the other. Here I was, perfectly happy playing new and old games alike. I guess I screwed everything up.
The thing is, the large majority of the good old games are already here. Those that aren't here are IP owned by other giants i.e. Diablo owned by Blizzard.

If GOG was to focus on adding more old games, naturally they would end up adding weaker titles and it wouldn't necessarily be for the best. Look at their latest old releases, most of them are meh.

A better question would be why does GOG refuse to let us easily filter out the newer games to allow us to browse the older ones?

This is the problem, we didn't have to choose. We could have both new and old game. Do you see any old game here? No new releases of old games. Only new. So yeah, we didn't have to choose. GoG did
No i love old games but more importantly i want "good games" regardless of age. I don't think GOG has abandoned getting old games it's just the more old games you add to the store, the less frequent the addition of new old games will be released.

Licensing hell issues and old IP's in hands of corporations like Microsoft i think prevents quite a few old games to be released here too, I want nothing more for games like NOLF series, MechWarrior Series, Age of Empires, Command and Conquer etc to be released but something tells me it's not easy.

Same goes for many good 80's and early 90's games, we don't for example have Wizardry 1-5 here which we should and i don't think it's by GOG's choice.

Someone please link that list of Gog's old & new releases for each year..

Btw OP, Gog already added a ton of good old classics, but the remaining ones are difficult\impossible to get or not very profitable.
Also, a store can't really base its survival on ancient (and now cheap) titles, they have to add new ones.

They do keep saying that the old good games left tend to either be caught in some legal purgatory, with rights split among multiple parties, some not even knowing they have them, many not caring, some specifically rejecting a new release. Or in some cases they prove basically impossible to get to run on modern systems. But mainly it's the rights thing for those still in reasonably high demand. And the rest are "too niche" (TM), probably. (Edit: Yeah, and the notable titles are by publishers who won't put their games here, as others mentioned, like Microsoft or Blizzard.)

But truth be told, there have been a few. There was obviously the free release of Jill of the Jungle (Nov 2), closely followed by Call of Juarez (Nov 5), which at over 10 years old would count as old. There was one other unquestionable classic game too, Superhero League of Hoboken (Jan 29). And I see three more at the over 10 y/o range, Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway (Jan 18) and Strategic Command Classic: WWII (Feb 12).

Plenty of us are waiting for many missing 90's / 2000's titles to be added but every time the question gets asked, the answers remain the same : it's due to a combination of 1. Rights issues (GOG wants them but can't get permission from IP owners to sell them), 2. Stubborn publishers who have a thing against against DRM-Free even for +10 year old games, and 3. Publishers who also happen to have competing stores (eg, Age of Empires 1 Definitive (published by Microsoft) isn't even on Steam, it's a MS store exclusive, Blizzard wants Diablo, etc, kept Blizzard only, Valve will never release Half Life or Portal anywhere but Steam, Mass Effect for Origin, etc).

I'd be more concerned if this wasn't the 2198742450327389th histerical thread about "waah no more old games" I've seen since I'm here, while old games keep coming.

But sure, have fun with your mental break.
My beef is how bad the website become.. I hover any game and youtube trailer shows up. The most useless thing that ever existed.

Screenshots are the best, gameplay review is second..trailer is worse than feature text list.. :|

Also no matter how you look old games had so much better gaming in it even low budget games, where new games are just "indie".. small mini games. Like cupcakes.

It's not as easy, as you want it to be.
GOG can't just go and release old games, only because we wish so.

First they have to find the current IP-owner(s), then the IP-owner(s) have to have an interest in getting their game released under two conditions:
1) DRM-free, and
2) on GOG.
Then the games in question need to be worked over, so they run on modern systems...

I guess not everyone can be as classy as you.

Edit 2 (because it fits so well):
https://www.pcgamer.com/gogs-10-year-journey-to-bring-old-games-back-to-life/

Quote: Getting a game on to GOG is tremendously complex, sometimes taking years of detective work, negotiation and technical wizardry. It’s hard to see all that from the outside, where all you see is the storefront.
