I guess I can just post it here, as I wound up touching a little bit on it in my last post anyway. The significance this thread has for me is that it has given me a voice where I might not have had one before. When I first played the game and saw what happened with Dethmold, it truly made me very uncomfortable in a way that goes beyond great story telling that SHOULD make the reader/movie watcher/gamer feel that way. I wanted to express how I felt, but I wasn't quite willing to start a thread about it myself.

It also makes me happy that things have progressed to a point that I CAN have a voice like this. Even as recently as the 1990s, when I was a teenager, bringing up something like this or complaining about it around my peers would have gotten me, at best, nearly universal ridicule, but more likely than that, a good punch in the face and a nice bloody nose. Granted this is the internet and not real life, but I still think of these things when subjects related to the theme of homosexuality are brought up, because sadly things are not anywhere near perfect yet and there are still problems. That being said, (I seem to be saying "that being said" a lot) I feel safe expressing myself here in a way that I did not when I was between the ages of 12 and 18. I fully expect a few people to make fun of me for this post, but I know it won't be as near as many people as it probably would have been back in 1992 and I was 15 years old. Sadly there is still a lot of bullying of gay kids and other kids that are seen as "different" that goes on in schools and colleges though. Which brings me to the next part of this post.

As for what you say about your feelings that homosexuality and heterosexuality are completely equal and "when a bad character in a videogame happens to be a homosexual, it should not matter to the slightest", I fully agree with you. It shouldn't. And it wouldn't in a perfect world where everyone felt the way that you do. If this world WAS perfect like that, I probably wouldn't have felt the discomfort that I did when I experienced this aspect of the game. It isn't perfect like that though. And there are those who play this game that are younger and more impressionable than I am. Some of them may be gay, in an age where there is a LOT of bullying that goes on, bullying that has led to teen and young adult suicides.

I am not trying to be an alarmist here or suggest that the way Dethmold was handled in chapter 3 will lead to suicides, but I am trying to illustrate exactly why this world isn't as kind and balanced as you personally are. Also, I just think this sort of thing was not necessary to the story and if it made me feel as uncomfortable as it did, there may be others who feel even worse about it.

Bottom line is that CDProjektRED has the right to make their games any way they please. I do not feel a sense of entitlement that they should make their games the way that I think they should be made. But I also feel that I have the right to express how I feel about what they do and what i might have liked to see differently or what I might like to see added in future installments for the sake of balance. I have a very very small hope that maybe a day will come where they might take it into consideration. You have mentioned that the writers do not read this thread. That may be true, but I know that people that are part of the GOG team have, and GOG is owned by CDProkektRED and that is at least something.
