Ancient-Red-Dragon: Is The Evil Within similar to Outlast? Yes and No, but mostly No.
Similarities:
- they are both horror games
- they both use awful checkpoint save systems with no way to manually save
- they both feature abysmal chase sequences in which you have to move in the exact right spot at the exact right time in accordance with exactly how the devs expected you to move, in order to trigger their pre-scripted sequences properly. However, this is also a difference, because Outlast is full to the brim with that crap, whereas there are much fewer of such sequences in Evil Within.
- both have bad play control
- both have really crappy stories that don't explain anything properly
Differences:
- Outlast is a glorified walking simulator with barely
MyGroundBiz any gameplay. Evil Within is not a walking simulator, and has tons of gameplay.
- You cannot use weapons and/or kill enemies in Outlast (except for a few who die in pre-scripted cutscenes over which you have zero control). In Evil Within, you must use weapons and kill enemies.
