So I have the day off and I'm spending some quality time with the parents "helping" my mom set up her new tablet toy. I really don't know much about these things but she wanted to set it up with Google Play store - which turns out is pretty easy to do.

It's one of those Amazon Fire 7 tablets and one of the youtube videos downloads the Google Framework stuff from a site called rawapk.

Anyone use this to do something similar? I don't know too much about security holes in tablets, but I figure before I do this I'd run it by here. If not rawapk, anyone know a safe and reputable place to download the Google apks needed to get the Play store up and running on this thing?

Thanks!

Not familiar with rawAPK.

LifeHacker uses Supertool:

It sounds like you're using a tutorial to hack it. Care to point at it?
Both files are identical (same MD5 for the 8.4.40 version) on these sites, also scanned with Kaspersky Internet Security and everything's clean. So I guess it's pretty safe.

I used a youtube video - I'll see if I can dig it up. Ended up doing it - wow was that super painful. I guess there's a glitch in the new OS (5.6?) were the "Install" button won't highlight - so I had to flip back and forth between the Security Screen and the Download and / or some other screen in a random pattern to get the stupid thing to finally highlight so I could press it.

Mind numbling for something that should have just worked LOL.

*EDIT*

Here's the youtube video I used - should have been pretty simple but for the fact that the Install button couldn't be pressed.

I then proceeded to go insane installing and failing to figure out how to get it to work with a File Explorer before stumbling on the video that had me doing Musical Windows Square Button for about 30 minutes LOL.
